1.0 out of 5 stars FIRE DJ SPANK!!!!
Now I am only speakin for the screwed version of this, DJ SPANK NEEDS TO GET SOME TALENT. Here is another good cd ruined by Spank. I should have bought the regular version and done it myself. I have much love for Rap-a-lot, but not for Spank.
RIP DJ SCREW,FATPAT,BIG MELLO.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tight compilation by Scarface and Rap-A-Lot, March 16, 2006
This review is from: My Homies (Audio CD)
Rap-A-Lot has always been the best indipendent label, always coming out with tight releases year after year, and never ever falling appart or losing it's artists (unlike other great labels in the past - such as Death Row, Suave, Cash Money, No Limit etc...). This label has always been a house for some of the best rappers and producers in the buisness, and J Prince is a very respected figure in the business (It's also nice to see a label owner not trying to be in the spotlight!). Anyway, 1998 was a very strong year for Rap-A-Lot. They released a lot of classic albums that year - Tela's album "Now or Never" (his debut on Rap-A-Lot), Yukmouth's debut "Thugged Out" and Devin's debut "The Dude". "My Homies" is Scarface's 5ht album and he came out with a blast. This album is straight gangsta rap. And I don't mean gangsta, like thoso "mafioso", big-ballin' so-called-gangsta rappers - "My homies" is all about the streets. Scarface hooked up with many rappers from all over: He had downsouth rappers (UGK, Master P) and Westcoast legends 2Pac, Too $hort, Ice Cube and B-Legit showed him love too. However, most of the rappers featured are Rap-A-Lot rappers. And as you all know, RAL has got one of the tightest rosters in the industry. Most of the label's members are featured on "My Homies": Yukmouth and Tela (who were the newscommers to the label), Devin, DMG, Facemob, Do Or Die, Willie D, Bushwick Bill, KB, 3-2, Snypaz, Hoodlumz, 5th Ward Boyz, Seagram, Big Mike, Ghetto Twinz and a few others. What a roster,!!... All on the same album!! As far as the album goes, it's not perfect, it's not a 5 stars album, but it's still a 4 star, and also a classic! It's just that it's got a lot of classics, especially the timeless "F*** Faces" (feat. Too Short, Devin and Tela), Southside Houston Texas (feat. Devin and Tela), Homies and Thugs (feat. Master P and an awesome verse by 2PAC - although it's just a freestyle, which obviously wasn't recorded in a studio so it doesn't really fit the beat, and sounds wack, but who cares), Overnight (feat. Do or Die and The Snypaz), In My Blood (Yukmouth, DMG and Big Mike", "Do What YOu Do" (B-Legit and Bushwick Bill over a tight a** beat by Tone Capone) and quite a few others. However the best song is "The Ghetto" - Scarface, featuring KB, Ice Cube and Willie D. Every rapper on this song delivers an unforgettable verse! Production on the album is flawless, as always with Rap-A-Lot, and is handled by Mike Dean, Mr. Lee, NO Joe, Brad Jordan (That's Scarface for those of you who don't know), Tone Capone and a few others. The album is not perfect, beacuse some of the songs sound a bit like filler to me, and not all the featured artists deliver as they should. There are no wack songs on the album, it's just that a few songs aren't at the same level as the great ones (that are the most). This album could easily be a classic masterpiece had it been a single CD with about 20 songs on it. But Double CDs were popular at that time, so Rap-A-Lot decided to go with it, especially with the huge success of the timeless classic "Thugged Out" (which has gone GOLD!). Scarface is awesome as usual (he is on about hald of the songs, so it's more of a compilation than a solo album), delivering his usual smart raps about life and the streets. This is a must-have, because there are too many classics on it, and you shouldn't miss that. This album is all about the streets, the hustlas, the thugs. You can see it from the albums cover - No fancy rides, iced out chains and watches or bit**s with bigg a**es. This album is straight gangsta. Rap-A-Lot never dissapoints.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good CD., October 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: My Homies (Audio CD)
Wow, one word summarizes this Album. This CD is great because on most CD's you get sick of hearing the same person's voice over and over, but this has like 20 other rappers on it and they all are good as hell. If you have 20 bucks on ya and you like rap, go get this CD. I find myself listening to it even after 6 months of owning it and that's alot to say about a CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER RAP-A-LOT CLASSIC!!!, June 25, 2006
This review is from: My Homies (Audio CD)
I JUST LOVE THIS ALBUM FROM THE START OF THE FIRST CD TO THE END OF THE 2ND CD. THIS IS MORE OF A COMPILATION THEN AN ACTUAL SCARFACE ALBUM BUT IT DOESNT TAKE AWAY FROM IT'S CLASSIC RAP-A-LOT TOUCH. THIS ALBUM SHOWCASES THEIR HOUSE ROSTER(AT THE TIME)AND AS THE ALBUM IS CALLED THEIR "HOMIES" LIKE ICE CUBE, MASTER P, 2PAC(RIP), TOO SHORT ECT. IF YOU CALL YOUR SELF A RAP-A-LOT FAN AND YOU DONT OWN THIS ALBUM THEN YOU ARE NO TRUE FAN.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real to his Homies, May 14, 2001

Scarface has definately captured the love of the street in this here album. He straight up kept it real with all the homeboys in todays' rap biz. With tracks like "Do what the .... you want to do" All the Homies in the street like me be flockin' to the record store for the fact that be the motto. There is a lot of bad mouthin' goin' on in these reviews, but them folks need to check nuts and realize what has been done here. Scarface dedicates this to Homies in the street, that's real. So much respect goes to the Big Homie Scarface for givin' it up to the street.

This review is from: My Homies (Audio CD)
Houston, Texas own Scarface returns with another classic showing his versatility as a producer, an artist and a entrepreneur highlighting fellow artist both established and the introduction of up and coming. My Homies is a thirty track release that captures the street life and survival where "Ma Homies" and "Greed" are the only two solo songs featuring Scarface himself. "Ma Homies" contains the formula that fans can appreciate with guitar licks and deep keys to accompany the slow tempo. The Hoodlumz follows the dreams of being a "Hustler" over the one-two punch of the guitar licks. "Do What You Do" features Bushwick Bill, K.B. & B-Legit is a great collaboration of styles over the looped vibes. A hometown anthem with Scarface, Devin & Tela gives different perspectives of "Southside: Houston, Texas" section to be specific. Giving street rules on "Don't Testify" featuring Scarface, FACEMOB & Hoodlumz with the consequences of "...if you don't you live, if you do you die..." and even deeper "Rules 4 Real N!gg*$" featuring Hoodlumz. Taking a clever sample for "Homies & Thuggs (The Remix)" features Scarface, 2pac & Master P as the song takes another tone during 2pac's verse to give it more dimentions and depth also found on "Homies & Thuggs (The Original)". Production by N.O. Joe captures the essence of this LP with deep piano chords on "The Geto" featuring Scarface, Willie D, Ice Cube & K.B. "F*** Faces" featuring Scarface, Too $hort, Tela & Devin is an agressive sexual prowness with a hint of elegance by the production of Scarface & Mike Dean. 3-2, UGK & F.L.A.J. is featured on the slow tempo groove "2 Real" highlighted by high pitched piano tones. Taking another angle of life on "Win Lose or Draw" features spiritual lyrical content from Scarface, Johnny P., DMG & Lo-Ke. Picking up on the album's tempo with "Overnight" featuring Do Or Die, Rock Roc & Snypaz with a bounce touch. The Ghetto Twiinz took excerpts from early Scarface lyrics as the chorus on "Small Time". FACEMOB go back to back on "City Under Siege" and features Scarface on "You Owe Me" highlights My Homies with Mr. Lee's production. Devin takes on a lighter approach over the R&B tone, "Do What You Want" on making decisions made in your life. The nonchalantness of Devin on "Boo Boo'n" is nearly a comedic effort dismissing others is still a good addition none the less. Giving reasons to the thug and or street life is exampled on "In My Blood" featuring Big Mike, DMG & Yukmouth. "Sleeping In My Nikes" featuring Scarface & Seagram shows to always be ready for anything at any given time. "Cocaine" featuring A-G-2-A-Ke is highlighted by the rapid fire flow giving street tales. Devin & K.B give an episode with one goal in mind on "Use Them Ho's". If you appreciate southern gangster rap this is a perfect addition to your collection. As usual Scarface gives you a complete project that you can keep in the deck.
