Still in the Hood,
By
This review is from: In My Hood part 3 (Paperback)
IN MY HOOD 3 continues on with characters readers were introduced to in the previous two novels. Nyeem, Ishmael and Desiree's son, is now fifteen years old. Raised by Nate, Ishmael's best friend, and under the watchful eye of Big Roy, Nyeem is struggling with his place in life. He has NBA aspirations while others see him as the heir to his father's street throne.
Elsewhere...time is of the essence for the Black Widow, a female assassin out to exact revenge for a family vendetta against Big Roy. When the bullets fly, who will be caught in the crossfire? Many readers may still be familiar with the happenings of IN MY HOOD and IN MY HOOD 2 and find 3 easy to delve into. But for those of us avid readers who've read so many books since part two, it wasn't as easy as 3 is very character driven and relies heavily on previous occurrences. I found myself lost at times not remembering who was who or their significance. In addition, the content of this novel wasn't as strong as the first two. The overwhelming question after completing this novel: why? What was the purpose? Was a part three necessary? For me the answer is no. It wasn't a bad book by any means, but I don't know why it was written in the first place. Endy is very talented and she definitely knows how to pen a tale. Her stories are unique and her perspective fresh. However, knowing what Endy is capable of, well enough should have been left alone. @ The foreword - huh? What was that about?!?! 3.5 Be sure to also check out... A Deal with Death

This review is from: In My Hood part 3 (Paperback)
The passing of time finds an aging Leroy aka Big Roy virtually retired from the game. Although he's still the man health concerns has forced him to dole over the reigns. Roy's legitimate operations are being handled by Nate while Click handles that not so legitimate ones. Roy desperately wants for Ishmael's son Nyeem to be groomed to take over his organization.
Nyeem is Roy's grandson; a fact that's only been revealed to Nate. However Nate, who has been raising Nyeem since Ishmael's and Desiree's deaths, knows that Nyeem's true talent lies in basketball. Nyeem has emerged as one of the top players in his High School and is about to attend a basketball camp. Unbeknownst to Roy his organization might come under a different type of reconstruction when a deadly female assassin with an axe to grind against him and his associates emerges. The Black Widow has waited all her life to enact revenge upon Roy for the part he played in the deaths of her siblings. Hatred born at such a tender age has made the Black Widow a very formidable foe. Author Endy heats the hood up yet once again as the ensuing war forces some new and old players to join the game!

This review is from: In My Hood 3 (Mass Market Paperback)
I have to say I liked this one also but, number 2 I liked it a lot more. This book let us know more about other characters that was mention in part 1 and 2 it brakes it down a bit about who is who and where most of them came from.
Also it lets us in on Nyeem a little more Ishmael's son that everyone knowns as Ishmael's son and people waiting for him to take his dad's place but, Nyeem dont want to do that he just want's to play ball. Big Roy still have enemies from his place. Black Widow is set to revenge her brother and sister's death by killing Big Roy and his crew. After Big Roy is shot Click goes off on a rampage to find out who did it. Nate trys to keep everything and everyone on the up and up but, then people ending up dying left and right because there are people out there that wants to take Big Roy's spot. At the end all hell brakes lose on the streets. Endy did it yet again. But, have to say this one was a good but, but, I think it's time to let In My Hood go now. I liked the action, with so much drama and killing and all great overall.

Nyeem Jenkins can not understand why the whole hood compares him to a dead man, or not compares but cant wait to see if he lives up to his fathers status. The worst part about it, is his best friend Doc believes he should ride off the hype. His Uncle and legal guardian Nate, believes he should as well as his grandfather Big Roy . Only one who doesn't, is Nyeem him self, he hates the idea of being held up to a dead man he has never known. Valencia aka Black Widow has nothing but hate and revenge in her heart for a man she doesn't know and honestly doesn't understand the full extent of all that happened years before her time. Nate, Ishmael's best friend and right hand man has full custody of Nyeem, runs all the businesses for Big Roy and tries to keep his self sane all in the process. After Big Roy gets shots, and no one in the hood seems to know who did it. It drives Nate crazy trying to keep Click out of trouble, run the companies and not lose his mind in the process. I couldn't figure out what Endy would write about in the 3rd installment considering all the main characters that were important to you had been murdered in the first and second stories. Well I think Endy pulled off the story, what drew me to the story more was the relationships and the realness the characters portrayed. The manly affection shown from all men involved, the idea to pull Nyeem in to inherit what his grandfather and father built. No one paid attention to the fact that no matter how much they tried he is his own person and that wasn't the life he wanted to live. Bringing TJ back to explain to Nyeem that its okay to be corny and it's okay to not want to end up the way their parents had, is what I see kids go thru everyday. I can say that because I see it almost happening to my son, trying to live up to what the parent was because of people in the street and losing who you really are. Yeah the gun fights where there the murders where there but what drew me to really enjoy and love this story was the relationships between the people, and understanding that no matter how much you don't know or like a person, real people have real feelings and hearts. Big Roy was a mess he committed a lot of crimes in his time; however he still did good on the flip side of him doing bad.

This was a okay read, now that I look back the other books Endy wrote were just okay as well. I don't know what it was but I just wanted to get to the end, maybe it's just me. I hope Endy's next book is more exciting.
