This review is from: Is My House Haunted?: Tips for anyone living in -- or investigating -- a house that might be haunted (Paperback)
Fiona Broome's latest book as of the time of writing this article, Is My House Haunted, is a fabulous addition to any ghost hunter's bookshelf whether they are a novice or experienced hunter. I had the pleasure to receive a preview-copy of Is My House Haunted from Ms. Broome and discuss her latest addition to her published books with her. The goal Ms. Broome wished to fulfill with Is My House Haunted, is to help homeowners solve the task of deciding whether a home is haunted, and where to find help if it is needed. After reading my review copy, I give Ms. Broome two thumbs up!

The book is a quick read, and filled with useful information. What I like most about Is My House Haunted is that even though it is meant for homeowners and novices, experienced hunters can purchase the book to gain a fresh outlook on what may be natural causes for evidence. Sometimes when wracking a brain for what may cause evidence, even the simplest of things can escape your mind. Having this book allows you to look at the content and index sections, and answers will jump out at you right away. A researcher can go to the section for the answer, and read further on.

The only wish I have about Is My House Haunted is that the sections went further into the causes, maybe by providing true investigation stories. However, that would make the book trail from its topic. This book, in my opinion, is to give readers a running start when they the ground, and aim them in the right direction of where to find help. I do not believe it was meant to be a book of stories of experiences.

With every cause, there are two boxes and one is checked off. One box for do it yourself (DIY) or a ask a pro. This allows you to plan ahead if you will be needed professional help or not, saving you time and energy. If a reader knows they will need a professional, they can place the call ahead of time, and be prepared when they are ready to take action.

Ms. Broome further describes each natural cause, and the signs of them. Readers can make a mental check list to see if their experiences match. If they don't appear to match, Ms. Broome lists routes to take to solve the issue, or if the issue goes unresolved, where to seek help if it is needed.

I am thoroughly pleased with Ms. Broome's Is My House Haunted. For those who have met Ms. Broome and have experienced her warm and caring personality, you will easily see it written into the book, and it welcomes readers. Where-as most books are written for entertainment purposes, Is My House Haunted is written to help those troubled by a possible haunting. Whether you are a homeowner worried about a possible haunting, an experienced ghost hunter who specializes in investigating homes and residences, or an interested reader, this book is perfect. I highly recommend Is My House Haunted for purchase, and will give it 4.75 out of 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good place to start after suspecting that you may have a ghost., January 16, 2010
This review is from: Is My House Haunted?: Tips for anyone living in -- or investigating -- a house that might be haunted (Paperback)
This book put my mind at rest. Even though my current dwelling is not haunted, it was not that long ago that I lived with a ghost. I chose to do nothing at the time, which is exactly what Ms. Broome encourages. Most ghostly phenomenon is a result of residual energy. The same energy that remains in a room after a party. The air becomes energized which affects people, animals and even inanimate objects.

However, if you are feeling anxious, frightened or emotionally disturbed by the energies in your home, it may be time to consider doing a complete analysis of the situation. This is where this book becomes invaluable. It begins with common sense suggestions to help you rule out all other normal causes of unusual occurrences. The first chapter addresses the steps to take to thoroughly investigate drafts, windows and door movement, cold spots, smells, and sensitivities. More often than not a professional housing inspector can help with this.

The second chapter gives you the tools to live with your ghost, once you determine that there is one. Some ghosts are not only friendly, but protective as well. A noisy ghost can be reasoned with. A mischievous ghost is normally harmless. In fact you may actually be perceived as a ghost by your counterpart in a parallel dimension. Isn't that fun to think about?

Finally, if you absolutely must do something about the haunting, Ms. Broome includes a myriad of resources to pursue. So, set aside your fears and think about ghosts as people. There are very few instances of true demonic behavior, so relax, buy this book and then happy ghost hunting.
