Bobs at their Largest Ever,

"My I'm Large" represents the Bobs at their absolute Largest. In their later stuff, they seem determined to make a capella performance sound like there really are instruments there. If I want to listen to things that sound like instruments, well, I'll go and get an album with instruments on it.This album is filled with simply incredible a capella performance by incredibly talented singers of what is some of the most intelligent, ingenious lyrics every put together. "Helmet" ALWAYS relaxes me. "Banana Love" always excites me! "Little Red Riding Hood" is a sensitive treatment of the male conflict between lust and gentleness, as well as the most interesting Bass solo I have heard. I have listened to this album more than any other album I have ever owned. You do not own a more ingenious, musically interesting album. If you think you do, please e-mail me the name of the challenger, I can always use another great recording.

Top notch music, a capella or otherwise,

The Bobs have created a wonderful mix of humorous originals and startling covers. They have managed in this album to create some of the all-time best a capella songs, and their performances on such old standards as "Little Red Riding Hood" and "You've Really Got a Hold on Me" advertise for them better than anyone else ever could. This is the one album that I can safely give to any of my friends, because no matter what their taste in music, they invariably love it.

This was the second album by acappella group the Bobs. It was a big improvement over their first album. Gunnar Madsen and Richard Greene really improved as songwriters in the four years between albums. "Helmet" and "Banana Love" are still popular favorites at the Bobs live performances, and so is their great cover version of the Miracles song "You Really Got a Hold on Me". One of my personal favorites is "Johnny's Room", possibly because it has my name in the title, but it's a very funny song besides that. If you are a fan of acappella singing, or funny songs, you will probably enjoy this album.

Amusing A Cappella,

This is a collection of mostly humorus songs recorded in an entirely different sort of way. Even if you are not an a cappella fan, you will find yourself singing songs like "Bulky Rhythm" and "Johnny's Room". You won't feel silly making noises for the backup music, because that's how the Bobs sing.

10 songs are incredible, 2 just great. Really, a masterpiece,

All but 'Bulky Rhytm' and 'Banana Love' are completely listenable even 19 years later. And those two songs ain't bad. This is one of their first four albums. Their four best out of their 13 (2 of the 13 being best of albums). So, also get, the self titled (1983), Songs for Tomorrow Morning (1988) and Sing the Songs of...(1991). You can't go wrong.
There's no band like this on earth. NYLONS? Nope. Nice, and a bit of an approximation of what the BOBS do, but the BOBS are the masters of their format and these four albums truely stand the test of time. I am as moved by them today, all four are masterpieces, as I was when I first heard them. My wife and some friends and I saw them about 5 times in the 80's and early 90's and they were delightful people, put on a great show and we ain't seen nuttin' like it before or since. This album is choc-a-bloc with hits. The BOBS' trademarks of: humor/story telling/vocal harmony beautifully and imaginetavely arranged/subjects you simply don't hear addressed anywhere else/and in their finest moments, emotion. Git this sucka. You'll love it if you love those things in your music. chrisbct@hotmail.com
