Miriam Edelson, and the story of her son Jake, have appeared across Canada in newspapers and magazines, and on television and CBC Radio. She works as a trade-union and disability-rights activist.

a soul-making passage from heartbreak to hope,

This is an essential book for parents of special children, and those who love and want to help them, but it is also one of the most moving personal stories I have ever read. It's said that "What doesn't break you makes you stronger," and Miriam Edelson's soul-making bravery is on every page of this book. It gave me courage, ideas, and inspiration, and I would recommend it to anyone on a similar journey, or to readers who want to know if their best hopes for human beings (and compassionate societies) can be tested by reality and endure, even flourish.
