5.0 out of 5 stars My Journey into Alzheimer's Disease
This was truly an insightful look into the thoughts and feelings of a man facing Alzheimer's Disease. Robert Davis was a very intelligent, successful minister in one of the largest churches in Miami when he tragically had to face the fact that Alzheimer's was robbing him of his ability to function. 2.0 out of 5 stars Don't judge a book by its title....
I was led to believe that this book was about Alzheimer's Disease. I was extremely disappointed by the book, and wish I had not wasted my money. I found only 2 chapters that really had any significance as far as reading about the disease. Instead I read about the author's problems with faith as he progressed through the disease. Also, I could have cared less about his...

5.0 out of 5 stars My Journey into Alzheimer's Disease, March 24, 2000
This review is from: My Journey into Alzheimer's Disease (Paperback)
This was truly an insightful look into the thoughts and feelings of a man facing Alzheimer's Disease. Robert Davis was a very intelligent, successful minister in one of the largest churches in Miami when he tragically had to face the fact that Alzheimer's was robbing him of his ability to function. His wife's love and his faith in God are the elements that keep him going. Davis writes "Many Christians have found that when life completely tumbles in, when they are without strength or any hope or help for themselves, or when their minds become too tangled to even hold thoughts, that God overrules the circumstances and that Christ comes to minister to them at the very point of their need."

This book is a great help to those suffering from the beginning stages of Alzheimer'a Disease, or for family and friends of a loved one with Alzheimer's. I guarantee you will find this book inspirational.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Adult Child's Experience, September 29, 2002

This review is from: My Journey into Alzheimer's Disease (Paperback)
This book is so insightful, especially the portions written by his wife, Betty. My father-in-law is in the final stages of this disease. I wish that I had discovered this book when he was going through the first phases. It would have helped us be even more understanding. ( We patiently listend to the same story over and over. In Bob's and Betty's words, they tell why.) My mother-in-law cried as she read the book. I urge anyone family that is experiencing this to purchase this book! An excellent resource!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Journey into Alzheimers by Robert Davis, August 3, 2002

This review is from: My Journey into Alzheimer's Disease (Paperback)
I found the book "My Journey into Alzheimers" to be exceptionally informative and inspirational. To read a book on Alzheimers Disease, written from the perspective of one afflicted is unique. Robert Davis has given his readers a look into the day to day battle against a much dreaded illness. This book is very thought provoking and touching. As a christian my self I was inspired by his continued relationship with God,despite his disease. I also found it very beneficial to gain insight into how a person with Alzheimers thinks and feels, and how this changes as the disease progresses. The practical advice on how to initiate a conversation with someone who has Alzheimers is helpful. No doubt, many readers will be thankful for the courage and dedication Robert Davis and his wife have put into this book. Having been permitted into their lives during this most difficult time is truly remarkable. However I find myself wondering how things are with Mr.and Mrs. Davis now. Is there perhaps a website, or e mail address where I can write? Thank you once again for this excellent resource. Debbie

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't judge a book by its title...., April 12, 2010

I was led to believe that this book was about Alzheimer's Disease. I was extremely disappointed by the book, and wish I had not wasted my money. I found only 2 chapters that really had any significance as far as reading about the disease. Instead I read about the author's problems with faith as he progressed through the disease. Also, I could have cared less about his "exalted" past and what a great guy he had been until he became ill.

I am sure the author had honest intentions. However, this is a book extolling his faith, which may be helpful for those who need a spiritual boost. If you are trying to learn about AD, search elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, June 26, 2007
This review is from: My Journey into Alzheimer's Disease (Paperback)
This is a beautifully written, though tragic, account of a wonderful man of God who contracted Alzheimer's disease. I knew the author and his wife personally before the events of this book took place, and I'm thrilled to have the account of their final trials and victories.

It is rare that someone would dare to face their own devastating terminal illness, in this case, Alzheimer's Disease, with such clarity and insightfulness. As a caregiver to my husband, a United Methodist pastor, who is in the mid-statges of this disease, this book was immeasurably enlightning and helpful in understanding some of what is happening in his mind. It has also helped me to better know how to minister to him and to now how to deal with this ongoing degeneration of what was a bright mind. Robert Davis' faith and ultimate trust, especially his sharing of how he made peace with the disease, has proved to be a great help to me, as I know it will be to others. I might note that my husband also read the book and found it helpful. Many thanks to Rev. Davis!

United Methodist Pastor (retired)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read!, June 15, 2010
This review is from: My Journey into Alzheimer's Disease (Paperback)
This was a book that I had to read for a class (adulthood and aging). It was a good read, but made me cry! I think that aging is something that not too many people plan for - but this book really helped to open my eyes to the thought that Alzheimer's could happen to anyone! I really appreciated how honest and frank the author was about his disease.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rare and Amazing Account, December 8, 2009
This review is from: My Journey into Alzheimer's Disease (Paperback)
This is a very rare account because most people are probably so angry and despairing when they realize they have Alzheimer's that they retreat inside themselves or rage as their memory slowly goes. Davis exhibited a great deal of courage as he wrote a detailed account of the advance of the disease. One reviewer was angry that he included his faith in the account. Surely anyone who is facing a terminal disease has the perfect right to include their spiritual beliefs in any memoir they decide to write. This is a powerful book and any family with a member facing Alzheimer's would do well to read this book and find courage and comfort.

5.0 out of 5 stars `Since I am new to Alzheimer Care Giver', March 8, 2007
This review is from: My Journey into Alzheimer's Disease (Paperback)
I am the care giver for my husband of 57 years, and have nothing to compare what I am going through so this is really helpful. One thing that I would find helpful is how prevelent some of the symptoms are. I am doing what he want to do, it is his life and his house and who am I to tell him how to feel. I appreciate hearing the things other care givers have experienced.
