This album rocked my expectations. We've all heard Amber's slew of dance crazy anthems, every compilation a year or two ago had one or another. She was inescapable. And her lyrics seemed very trite.
Amber has...well, grown up. It seems that way, at least. She still talks about love and loss, but who doesn't? Her music is less remixable, even though people will do it anyway. Her titles are a bit more mature, and her themes are as well. The music is darker, and more enlightening. It showcases her softer voice perfectly. I love this album. The highlights are You move Me, Sacrificial Lamb, Private War... Really listen to everything, it's great. She lost a star for the lyrical monotony though. While the themes and lyrics are matured and interesting, you kinda get tired of hearing how she's been screwed over by men. Oh well, can't have it all. Still a GREAT album!

Not Just a Dance Diva anymore - just pure Diva,

On her latest album, produced and released through her new label JMCA - AMBER does once again what she is meant to do...release an album that grows on you with each passing play!
From the opening track with it's middle eastern influence, right down to the "perfect for pop radio" song JUST LIKE THAT, she creates the new sounds of music that are so desperately missing in today's musical world. MY KIND OF WORLD is indeed, a top notch, first out the door release for Miss Amber, she knows how to write the songs, get them produced, and even takes her mother, her mother's partner (who is also her producer and mixer Wolfram), and her sister on this DIVINE musical journey. To hear the songs, WHEN A LOVE GROWS COLD, CITY OF PAIN, SACRIFICIAL LAMB, and VOODOO is to make you realize that this very independant woman is more than ready to take on the pop music world of top 40 radio. Her voice is stronger than any female singer in the top 40 today, she can sing a range from down and dirty, gritty vocals to soaring in the clouds like an angel, with just a touch of jazz scat to please and compliment any song. The first single YOU MOVE ME, of course is club ready right from the start, just to please her dance fans, and establish the cd, this was/is the logical choice of first release...but the best is yet to come. Congrats to Miss Amber and her family - they've created musically one of the best cd's of 2004 and 2005...

Amber is back! and I personally welcome her, with her new sound and musical direction, IT is definelty something that should be played on radio.I am so bored with Radio lately everything is the same.
First off Amber is now an independent Artist and it shows in her music that she wanted to focus on deep and a little darker edge to her music. My personal favorites are SACRAFICAL LAMB! Wow what an awesome song! Her voice sounds amazing, hopefully the next single! City of Pain, beautifuly tragic, ballad.Very original lyrics. Voodoo Sexy spellcasting song! electric guitar sounds great. You move me(first single) Awesome beats, catchy great to "move" to =). YOUR KIND OF WORLD, beautiful ballad. JUST LIKE THAT, great Dance song. The Album is great over all! no fillers.Defintely something worth getting.

Her Kind of World !,

This review is from: My Kind of World (Audio CD)
"You will be very astounded," Amber sings at the start of the killer track Sacrificial Lamb from her brand new album "My Kind of World ." And you WILL be ! Amber's first release from her very own independent label JMCA Enterprises is HOT ! Known best for the long-lived chart topping dance hits such as "This Is Your Night," "Sexual," "Above the Clouds" and "Love One Another", Amber sets out to prove she's more than just a diva, she's a true Woman of Rock ! And she proves that and much much more.
Opening with a lush mysterious vibe on " Crucified Solitude," the new album features a confident, head-strong, vocal powerhouse of a lady , who rocks thru tracks like the anthem "Sacrificial Lamb", sings soulfully in the haunting "City of Pain," is vulnerable in "Same Old Paradise" and goes completely wild in the insanity that is "Voodoo." Amber proves she can "out-Celine " Celine Dion, she can belt them out like Taylor Dayne, she can rock as hard as Amy Lee and she can warm your soul like Mariah Carey. Refusing to get lumped in with so many of today's one hit wonders and perky dance divas, this woman lets it all loose on her new album and the results will blow you away !

Just Like That---My Kind of World blew me away/Try it!,

Well, I have listened to the album and I must say that without a doubt it is fierce! (AKA a great CD) It has so many different sounds that you can't help but love it. After listening a few times I AM really enjoying the album-Amber's Voice, The Lyrics, and The Music! My favorite song (and I hope this is the next single!!!) is Sacrafical Lamb!!! Is is a strong song with great lyrics, great intruments, and overall one of the best songs on the album. My next 2 favorites songs are Private War and Just Like that. Both songs are produced very well and are special in there own right!! I keep listening to Just Like That, Just Like That! It is Catcy and a GREAT song. (I would also nominate this for single consideration as well.) Following those 2 songs I like Crucified Solitude, Voodoo, and Same Old Paradise. These are the 6 songs I am really into right now!
As I think about Amber's past 2 albums, Naked and Amber, I honesty never was into her singing anything slower than her normal dancee songs, but on this album I do enjoy the singing with the slower music/tempo; it really does work and I am happy she went in this direction!!!! This Album is different so you have to listen to it a couple times; its not prepackaged garbage, it is true music! Jimmy

A Super-Dance-Diva REWORKED!,
By
This review is from: My Kind of World (Audio CD)
When one hears of singer-song writer Marie-Claire Cremers, popularly known as Amber, automatically what comes to mind is her well deserved reputation as a super dance diva, who amidst the atmosphere of teeny-bop recyclable dance music of Britney, N'Sync and the likes of them, hijacked the dance floor and delivered some groundbreaking, foot-moving material such as the hits: "This is Your Night" (1996), "Sexual" (1999), "Love One Another" (1999), and "Yes!" (2001). Continuing in that tradition, staying faithful to her dance roots, under the auspices of Tommy Boy Records, Amber never failed in delivering a highly successful dance album; she did precisely that with her still recent album "Naked". However, as we all well know, traditions are sometimes in need of renovation or reconstructing - and "My Kind of World" is precisely the embodiment of that reconstructing - it is Amer the Super Dance Diva completely and, may I say, brilliantly reworked! After all, who says that only Madonna can be reinvented? "My Kind of World" is certain evidence of Amber's metamorphosis. How is this album different, you might think - from her previous gems: "Naked", "Amber" and "This is Your Night"? For one thing it is definitely much more edgier and polished. Indignantly, "My Kind of World" seems to flirt throughout its twelve tracks with a more rockier sound, one which erupts in a crescendo of rockin' dance fury on hit-potentials like "Voodoo" and especially "Sacrificial Lamb" (my personal favorite). Although successfully reworked, and lounched from her own record label, JMCA Enterprises, "My Kind of World" is not entirely a departure from the good-old days of dance -moving hits. "You Move Me" and "Voodoo" supply the best shock of energy to this album and songs such as "Same Old Paradise" and "Just Like That" are reminiscent of previous Amber treats like "Object of Your Desire" (1999) and "Anyway" (2002). While magnificantly reworked, the album does seem to have one overbearing flaw - track after track, it seems like the theme of 'hurt' and 'suffering' and 'retribution' manages to be at times overwhelming if not a bit tacky. From listening to "My Kind of World" one undoubtedly gets the feeling that this lady has been hurt before - but after you hear it in the context of different lyrics, track after track after track, you sort of wish she was a little less honest.....Nevertheless, even this bit of information should not stop you from buying this CD: for true Amber fans this will be undoubtedly a pleasant treat and for the rest of you, it should be a great introducion to an artist who takes her job seriously and always delivers mature and sensual music. After purchasing "My Kind of World" also make sure to check out the "Voodoo (Ugly Doll Remix)" and "Just Like That (Jason Nevins Remix)" as they make great companions to this already hit-stuffed album. Here is my breakdown:
1) Crucified Solitude (3/5) 2) You Move Me (4/5) 3) Voodoo (5/5) 4) Same Old Paradise (5/5) 5) Sacrificial Lamb (7/5) (EXCELLENT!!!) 6) Private War (4/5) 7) When a Love Grows Cold (5/5) 8) Just Like That (5/5) 9) City of Pain (5/5) 10) Your Kind of World (4/5) 11) More Time for a Child (5/5) 12) Don't Follow Me Home (5/5)

Amber's career deining moment.,

Every artist seeks to release that perfect album. Some may get it one the first try, some it might take almost
ten years to accomplish that feat. Sometimes it takes expansive production, sometimes it takes the artist to release their full independance minus the expansive production. One of those albums is Amber's "My Kind of World" which is an amazing musical journey. It begins with "Crucified Solitude" that brings to mind a Middle Eastern sunset in the song's 1 minute musical introduction that draws the listener into Amber's world, then explodes in to an almost Celine Dion like power ballad. The second song "You move me" the album's greatest hit is a pop/dance song, but it is better than anything from Brtiney or Christina. Maybe it has something to do with Amber's amazing voice, her actually writing the song, and the electric guitar. It kills any of Britney's attempts at making a sexy dance song. "Voodoo" is a song a I can't really describe. it's something no one has done before. It's almost magical. Well it is called voodoo. :) "Same old Paradise" is most like a same old song from Britney Spears, but with something special about it. Maybe it has something to do with the middle eastern influence. Amber sells this one. "Sacraficial Lamb" is an epic classic of a song. It's much like a Kelly Clarkson song, but it so much better. Amber's mother wrote it too. This could be a great radio hit. Amber does it better than any of those cookie cutter pop princesses. "Private War" is one of the best ballads ever. So true-so deep-so great. "When a love grows cold" is an epic ballad. a great vehicle for Amber's voice. "Just like that (Romeo and Juliet)" is another possible radio that could establish the album on the charts, so Amber could get the recognition that she deserves. Although this is a pop song, it's better than anything by Britney. It even has a techno feel to it like some of Amber's previous hits. "City of Pain" is the coolest song ever. It sounds like it'd fit on a T.a.t.u., Bjork, or Dido album. It's so powerful, so unique, so beautiful. This is how electronica should be done. It's so ahead of it's time. Holy lord. this should be a mega-hit. This is definately a highlight for me. "Your kind of World" is another great ballad, that is Celine Dion esque but Amber pours her soul in to this. People this is what happens when an artist does it her own way. "More time for a child" is too true. Amber's sis can write too. It has kind of a fast-slow techno feel to it. Amber's voice is beautiful on this. It reminds me of something that'd be on her previuos album "Naked" which was also great. "Don't follow me home" is an ethereal jazzy electronica song. My conclusion is that is that this is the real Amber people. This is by far her best work yet. I have been looking forward to it for months, and finally I bought it this week. it's one of those albums that you could listen to dozens of times and still find it exiting. The auburn red hair looks great on Amber. She looks just fab on the cover. She is beautiful on the inside and on the outside. I like dit a first, the second time I liked it better, third time I loved it, fourth time I was addicted to it. This is true music, by a true artist. Support her please? Crucified Solitude 11/10 You move me 10/10 Voodoo 10/10 Same old Paradise 9/10 Sacraficial Lamb 12/10 Private War 10/10 When a love grows cold 10/10 Just like that 9/10 City of Pain 11/10 Your kind of World 9/10 More time for a child 8/10 Don't follow me home 11/10 Overall Grade 10/10

Enchanting -- Amber just gets better!,
By Jere (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Kind of World (Audio CD)
From the first haunting note of CRUCIFIED SOLITUDE to the final fading heart-beat of DON'T FOLLOW ME HOME, you'll be trapped in the orbit of Amber's MY KIND OF WORLD. As the title suggests, Amber is finally free -- venturing out on her own independent label, and producing the kind of music she's always wanted, with an album that will surprise and thrill her long time fans, as well as those who've just discovered this musical gem. With a string of 10 top ten hits under her belt, including Sexual, Above the Clouds, and Yes, among others, Amber has proven herself to be a musical force, consistently producing chart toppers with substance.
On this latest effort, and her fourth album in 8 years, Amber proves she's much more than a dance artist, taking us with her on an emotional and heartfelt journey that is often darker, more mystical, and more revealing than anything we've heard from her so far. Teaming up with long time collaborator and current producer Wolfram Dettki, Amber reveals the emotion, power, and wisdom that come from truly living, feeling, and being. The result is a complex and enchanting album with provocative lyrics and a sound that defies easy categorization. With just one listen, you'll be under Amber's spell. Powerful ballads like PRIVATE WAR, YOUR KIND OF WORLD, as well as the groovier SAME OLD PARADISE and the funky, honky-tonk infused WHEN A LOVE GROWS COLD are punctuated by uplifting pieces like YOU MOVE ME (already a Billboard Dance Chart's top 5 hit), a charming JUST LIKE THAT (instantly radio-ready), as well as the gritty and in-your-face SACRIFICIAL LAMB, and the eerie yet mesmerizing VOODOO that draws you in slowly and builds to a pulsating chorus -- any one of which, with just a little radio play, could catapult this CD to a mainstream hit, and Amber to greater and well-deserved recognition as a songwriter, singer, artist, and performer. In a day where vapid mannequins are "pop stars" and inane, uninspired songs too often become "hits," Amber's "kind of world" is one I'd much prefer to live in.

Amber Rocks!,
By Jacquelynn "++ Jackie ++" (Montgomery, AL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Kind of World (Audio CD)
This had to be one of the best CD's I have ever bought, Amber's previous CD's were great, but this one is just really, really good. I mean she has matured so much since her last album, I like the rock edge, especially since I am beginning to love rock music. ~.^ Anyway here is a rundown of the tracks:
(1.) Crucified Solitude: it starts out with some cool Middle Eastern sounds which are really cool, then she starts belting out this song like Christina Aguilera wishes she can. (5/5) (2.) You Move Me: This is like Amber's old style, but a little more rock, which is a good thing. This was also deservedly a radio hit. (4.5/5) (3.) Voodoo: I like the mysterious sound of this song, it is like almost spellbinding, I can see this becoming a hit for her. (5/5) (4.) Same Old Paradise: An R & B'sh, electronica ballad, It is not my favorite song on the album but it is nice to listen to. (3.5/5) (5.) Sacraficial Lamb: This is a very Kelly Clarkson song, but it is so much better than any of her songs, and this can be a hit for Amber, the chorus is great! (6/5) (6.) Private War: a beautiful personal song, like a better version of Pink's "Family Portrait.". (4.5/5) (7.) When a Love Grows Cold: Pretty similiar to "Same Old Paradise," only better, it is kind of boring but it is 'nice' to listen to. (4/5) (8.) Just Like That: This song is kind of bland, but I like the electric guitar element. (2.5/5) (9.) City of Pain: this song is simply amazing and makes up for the previous two songs, it reminds me of T.a.tu.'s "Stars." and some of Bjork's songs. I like the lyrics here and Amber sounds impassioned here. (7/5) (10.) Your kind of World: another ballad here, it is better than "SOP." and "WALGC.", but it is kind of generic. (4.5/5) (11.) More time for a child: meh, this song is similiar to "Just like that." and it never caught me as a listener, but still it's Amber. (2/5) (12.) Don't follow me home: this is alot like "City of Pain." with it's spacy sounds, it is not as good as it, but it is still a good song with some jazzy elements. (6/5) Overall I would estimate it being a 4.5 out of 5 album! |
