5.0 out of 5 stars BACK COVER REVIEW
Was Lady Angelina Penrose some grasping harpy? Or the beautiful widow longing for love that others saw? The Earl of Penrose wanted to think the worst. But when he learned otherwise, Frederick doubted he could ever make amends for their unfortunate introduction. Until he spotted Angel at a ball that could ruin her reputation...and he felt honor bound to save her...

2.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous plot; unlikable characters
I just didn't warm to these characters! Although it was a ok read, the plot and all the "weird" happenings just did nothing for me!

Angel, despite all her attempts at being "head of the family" rarely had a thought of her own. Yes, she had survived an abusive marriage and yes, she had migraines and yes, she had debilitating monthly cycles ... but as head...

I just didn't warm to these characters! Although it was a ok read, the plot and all the "weird" happenings just did nothing for me!

Angel, despite all her attempts at being "head of the family" rarely had a thought of her own. Yes, she had survived an abusive marriage and yes, she had migraines and yes, she had debilitating monthly cycles ... but as head of the family (sounds very godfatherish!), she did little of showing strength or compassion. I found her almost childish in her thoughts and actions.

Frederick (our hero) seemed incapable of being kind. He was one angry, scowling man -- always defensive. I didn't even like the way he took his mistress for granted. He was ready to throw her out into the world (to find another protector) after he found his true love. Angel was the one who wanted to make sure the woman was allowed to become a respectable widow again!

My list goes on and on ... and I don't want to spoil any ending by revealing too much. I enjoyed some portion of this book but towards the end skimmed through many pages. The whole PLOT was just ridiculous ... Frederick at one point abducts Angel and wears the mask he wore when they met at an infamous ball (he was known to her as Max)-- where she thinks he used her after she passed out -- a weird scenario in itself. Bleh! That was after Pierre (her maybe other cousin) has kissed her while calling her another's name ... Bleh 2! No characters were endearing to me including the nasty Aunt who seemed to hate people without reason? Even Angel's father (dead a year) seems to have been a horrible man!!!

Although I slogged my way through it, I cannot recommend it!

Abused by her late husband, Angel had come to the risque ball for a little harmless flirtation. And she found it with a mysterious stranger known only as Max. But even under the spell cast by Max's gentle kisses, she sensed there was something disturbingly familiar about her masked lover...
