3.0 out of 5 stars A light read, September 21, 2011

Flower Girl (MN, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Lady InnKeeper (Mass Market Paperback)
It was just that--a light read, if one was not particular about the realities or observe the proprieties. But I do. So this book did not work for me. Also neither characters possessed charms to me--heroine was too impetuous and non-sensible (often trusted the wrong person and discredit the innocent one), and hero was not intelligent enough to suit author's portrayal (he was supposed to be highly decorated war carrier but was easily out-smarted by the villain).

The blurb: A tempting package of wealth, lineage and beauty, Miss Lyndell Markham had managed to avoid every roguish expert with rakish ways. Men, she decided, were toads, especially her ne'er-do-well stepbrother, who took her money, bought a tawdry inn, and was currently in the gallows for his suspected role in a spy ring.

Although Lyndell knew her stepbrother to be a fool, he was no traitor. She knew what she must do--leave London, disguise herself as the new innkeeper and trap the spy herself!

But her newest guest, the Marquis of Cheyne--war hero, lady's man, and general rogue about the ton--could ruin Lyndell if he knew her identity. Surely, she was too smart to succumb to his convincing embrace....

Barbara Metzger is a wonderful writer and My Lady Innkeeper is a delightfully romantic and suspenseful read. Her characters Lyndell and the Marquis of Cheyne have great chemistry. I recommend this novel to anyone who loves Regency Romance

3.0 out of 5 stars An Early Metzger Title, January 21, 2011
By
Lisa (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Lady Innkeeper (Hardcover)
Copyrighted in 1985, the third Regency romance in Barbara Metzger's career, this novel showed promise of her later humor and wit.

This copy used to belong to a public library in Albany, New York. It was a discard from their collection. Thanks to its plastic cover, the book and its dust jacket were in pretty good condition. I'll be donating it to our own library's upcoming book sale, since Barbara Metzger's books have since become very popular.
