4.0 out of 5 stars Keep the times in mind
I first read this book in 1998, when I was a sprightly lass of 18. That, I am sad to say, is a long long time ago. But for its day, this novel was great. Maeve was fiesty when compared with other heroines of the early 1990's, and although the story is far fetched, it is still a funny book - and although I like Gray and Maeve, the best character of the book by far has...

3.0 out of 5 stars It was ok but not a must have...
The hero is a liar and is judgemental and a hypocrite and the heroine is cruel and uncompromising. I was really looking forward to this book because I LOVE Pirate books especailly when the women are strong sword weilding characters but this book kinda fell flat to me.

I first read this book in 1998, when I was a sprightly lass of 18. That, I am sad to say, is a long long time ago. But for its day, this novel was great. Maeve was fiesty when compared with other heroines of the early 1990's, and although the story is far fetched, it is still a funny book - and although I like Gray and Maeve, the best character of the book by far has to be Admiral Nelson - I've had a soft spot for him ever since.

So it's a great book to read on the whole - provided you keep in mind that it was written 16 years ago!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not At All Entertaining, March 31, 2009
This review is from: My Lady Pirate (Paperback)
While there were funny moments spread out among the book all in all I really didn't like it. It really felt utterly ridiculous. I know at times one must suspend reality when reading fiction, but this just took things too far. I didn't find any of the characters except maybe Admiral Nelson to be realistic. The heroine and her crew were just the worst!! I would not read it a second time and if I knew what I knew now I wouldn't read the first time.

2.0 out of 5 stars A little too silly!, September 24, 2008
By
This review is from: My Lady Pirate (Paperback)
Maeve is a pirate Queen, she sails the world with her women warriors. Gray a handsome castaway Naval officer in Pirate costume, washes up on the shore of Maeve's Island paradise, when swimming to an illicit romantic Rendezvous, with a married woman. And then begins Grays desire to make Maeve his own. But he has secrets and she can not love or trust.

I love Lady pirate books. But this one was a little on the silly side and through a lot of the book I didn't really connect to the Hero or the heroine. There are some good parts in this book but it just basically comes off silly and unbelievable. And at times I didn't think either one of them deserved to be happy. Get this one at the Library. But don't let this one stop you from reading any of Danelle Harmon's other books, most of them are quite good. I just didn't like this one.

Try one or all of these by, Danelle Harmon,
The wild one- Gareth
The beloved one- Charles
The Defiant one- Andrew
The wicked one- Lucien

5.0 out of 5 stars I liked it a lot!, November 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: My Lady Pirate (Paperback)
I really liked Gray. He was gorgeous and truly a gallant knight. I loved the way he wrote her love letters and sent her gifts. I loved his heart. He was wonderful. The story was exciting, too and the ending was all a romatic heart could hope for.
