Except her early champion is no longer a boy, and his strength and virility are more temptation than any noble suitor. But Margery hides a secret that makes her determined never to marry-and not even her sworn knight can safeguard her from it.He Promised To Protect Her

Years ago in the midst of battle, young Margery's protection was entrusted to the twelve-year-old Gareth. "A fresh new voice." -- --Romantic Times

"Gayle Callen cements her place as one of the fresh new voices of Medieval romance." -- Romantic Times Magazine, September 2000

From the Author

The heroine of MY LADY'S GUARDIAN, Margery Welles, was a secondary character in my first two books, THE DARKEST KNIGHT and A KNIGHT'S VOW. She was the little sister of two overly protective big brothers, Reynold and James. I had to give her her own book, not only because she became so real to me, but so she could twist her brothers into knots as they came to the realization that their little sister was old enough to fall in love--and they didn't appreciate her choice in husband.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wicked romantic, June 2, 2000
This review is from: My Lady's Guardian (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1475 England, due to the strange visions he always suffered, Gareth Beaumont saved the life of eight-year old Margery Welles when treachery left her in peril. However, her brothers never trusted a Beaumont, including Gareth, and he soon began a life of a mercenary exile.

Now a dozen years later, Gareth awakens from sleep knowing that that Margery is back in trouble. Although he would prefer to pretend this was a dream, he knows the Beaumont curse has sent him a vision that he cannot ignore because of his oath to Lord Welles. He travels to Margery,s home where he learns the King has granted her permission to marry anyone she chooses. She asks her childhood friend to protect her from unsavory suitors by acting as her fiancé. However, soon love enters the picture even if he is not her equal.

The third installment in Gayle Callen's exciting medieval romance trilogy, MY LADY'S GUARDIAN, is an entertaining story filled with action and tension. The story line moves rapidly forward due to the antics of the engaging lead couple. As with Ms. Callen's previous novels, THE DARKEST KNIGHT and A KNIGHT'S VOW, fans of the sub-genre will relish a tale that highlights the thrilling heart-thumping elements that make historical romances so enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Lady's Guardian, July 6, 2000
This review is from: My Lady's Guardian (Mass Market Paperback)
When Margery Welles was a child, Sir Gareth Beaumont saved her life. They had become friends but lost touch for several years. Now that Margery is grown, Gareth senses Margery is in danger once again. Margery's danger is of a different sort now. Since she is young and unmarried, she is sought by many noblemen for her beauty and her fortune. A terrible secret prevents Margery from marrying, but Gareth sees beyond the secret and recognizes Margery for the person she is. The pageantry and intrigue of the Middle Ages comes alive in Gayle Callen's 4 1/2 star final installment in this trilogy. It's a lovely way to tie all three books together, and Gareth and Margery are characters to remember

3.0 out of 5 stars A good wrap to the trilogy, July 15, 2002
This review is from: My Lady's Guardian (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the 3rd book in the series. It all started with "the Darkest Knight" then there was "A Kinght's Vow" which are the heroine's two brothers stories. The heroine, Lady Margery has made appearances in the other two books so it was nice to read her story.
It starts off as a flashback to when the heroine and hero were both children. The hero, Gareth is fostering at her fathers keep when it falls under attack. Gareth is asked by the Lord to keep Margery safe. He does but when its all over he is sent away from Margery by her older brothers.

12 years later, Gareth returns convinced that Margery is in danger and that he must protect her. Margery, now grown has been given a great privilege by the king. To choose her own husband. She is soon swamped by perspective bridegrooms and when Gareth comes to her aid she is comforted and happy to see her old friend. Gareth poses as onw of the would be prospects to insure her safety.

Margery has a secret though that is tearing her apart and only Gareth can help her with it. Along the way they fall in love but both know it can neer be.

This is a good enjoyable story that will make you want to read more of this authors work.
