About Órla

“I have been privileged in the places that music has brought me," says Órla Fallon.

Given the places she’s been these past years, it would be difficult to disagree. His Holiness the Pope, US Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush and Irish President Mary McAleese, have all been a part of Órla's audiences throughout these past ... Read more in Amazon's Orla Fallon Store

Editorial Reviews

Join the talented and radiant Órla Fallon on a heartfelt musical pilgrimage through her beloved Ireland. Órla Fallon's My Land celebrates the people and the landscapes of the Emerald Isle, and revels in the beautiful music they inspire.
My Land is the show that Órla always wanted to make. Shot live and in concert at the historic 17th-century Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin, My Land includes Órla's stirring solo renditions of Irish and American classics, and also features performances by the legendary Dubliners, the Dublin Gospel Choir, and a special appearance by the influential Irish singer/songwriter Damien Dempsey. Órla's television audience gets to journey with her outside the walls of the concert hall, on a pilgrimage across Ireland, from the craggy cliffs of Moher in the west to the green coasts of the north, to the pubs, villages, rivers, meadows, and historic sites that make Órla's native land so enchanting.
My Land features classic Irish songs near and dear to Órla, including: "The Isle of Innisfree," Spanish Lady," "Mo Ghile Mear" and "Ni Na La" as well as the American classics "Morning Has Broken" and "Both Sides Now."
Órla Fallon's My Land is a perfect way for Irish-Americans and Americans of all backgrounds to celebrate March, St. Patrick's Day, and the return of Spring.
A gifted singer and master of the Irish harp, Órla Fallon has been well known to public television audiences since her days with the group Celtic Woman, which has sold over 5 million records worldwide. She grew up in the picturesque Irish village of Knockenanna, where her grandmother instilled in her an early love of traditional Irish music. Her career has taken her around the globe, to perform for Presidents and Popes. Órla has been seen on public television over 14,000 times and, in 2010, she recorded the hit public television show Órla Fallon's Celtic Christmas.

I'd never heard her sing outside of Celtic Woman until a friend took me to her concert which was excellent.

Órla has really delivered on her new album. Her voice is angelic as ever and each song leads beautifully into the next. I literally studied and read through my school books while the album played in my ear. When it ended, I just wanted more. I was in such awe. As you close your eyes, you just feel innately Irish and the spirit of the Green Isle around you. There is something for everyone on this album!

Mo Ghile Mear: Opening with a gaelic track was perfect for luring me in. I just adore her voice singing Irish. Her version of Mo Ghile Mear definitely hold its own when compared to Mary Black's version, as well as the others. She puts her own spin on it with the arrangement. The power is still there, just not as epic as the CW version. Plus, it's all in Gaelic so that's a definite bonus - perfect song for getting everyone in the Irish/Ireland mindset.

Distant Shore: What can I say about Distant Shore that hasn't been said already, I'm sure. I love this song, and while the vocals are the same as on her previous album, the arrangement is a tad different, which I appreciate. The use of the pipes in the beginning are beautiful. Again, another song that catapults the listener to the Emerald Isle.

Morning Has Broken: Morning Has Broken is a stunning piano-guitar based ballad that really showcases the haunting qualities of Órla's unique voice. The simplicity of the arrangement really takes you to an Irish field in the Spring time creating the images of flowers and other things coming back to life. This song has nature written all over it. The song is origin is a Christian gospel hymn, referring to God and the praise for him. You really believe the words when she says them.

For the many fans of former Celtic Woman Orla Fallon the world over, her solo releases cannot come often enough and this one is certainly no exception! In addition to songs you may have heard her sing: Isle of Innisfree, Distant Shore, My Land and songs she sang with Celtic Woman(Mo Ghile Mear, Spanish Lady), you'll hear her delightful treatment of the former Cat Stevens hit Morning Has Broken, Both Sides Now and Down To The River to Pray which you may recall most prominently from the Coen brothers movie O Brother Where Art Thou.

Orla's fans cannot afford to miss this one! And,for an added visual dimension, the DVD contains some glorious scenes of her performing the numbers in Ireland both in concert and in beautiful historical settings around the country and so the companion DVD really should be purchased also. She is accompanied by some fantastic musicians, as well as special guests such as the Dubliners, Tommy Fleming and the Dublin Gospel Choir! You really don't want to miss this wonderful treat from Orla!

If you want to treat yourself to a slice of Ireland, purchase Orla Fallon's "My Land". Ms.Fallon's heavenly vocals and the beautiful arrangements will leave you wanting more. Add some Irish guest artists like the legendary Dubliners, Tommy Fleming, and Damien Dempsey to the mix, and the CD and DVD become " must haves".

Aside from being a gifted singer and harpist,Ms.Fallon is also a storyteller through her music. This is no more evident than in her rendition of "Isle of Innisfree". Close your eyes and visualize the story of someone who yearns for home and family from afar. The scenes unfold before your eyes through the emotion in Ms.Fallon's singing and harp playing.

It's the same way with every song. Ms.Fallon puts her own stamp on such classics as "Morning Has Broken" as well. Her rendition of "Both Sides Now" will give you a renewed appreciation of the song and its lyrics. I believe it could be released as a single and enjoy tremendous success - it's that good.

Ms.Fallon has made no secret of her love and passion for her native Ireland and its musical heritage. It's shows in her music. "My Land" will take you on an armchair visit to Ireland. You will have no better tourguide than Orlagh!

CD only contains about 37 minutes, so disappointing in that respect. So I recorded it on a CD, and added other celtic music.

Voice and music both outstanding.

Orla Fallon's My Land album is one of the most enjoyable albums I have purchased. Her voice lifts me up and carries me away, perhaps to Ireland, but certainly to a pleasant place. I have three of her albums and enjoy all of them, but this is definitely my favorite. From the opening chords of Mo Ghile Mear to the closing strains of the final song I delight in every minute. Her rendition of Mo Ghile Mear is inspiring and moving. This version of My Land is also stirring. I love the numbers (Spanish Lady and I'll Tell Me Ma, as well as Dirty Old Town on the DVD) with The Dubliners. Red is the Rose is also a wonderful piece. I'm not sure that I could claim that a single song is the crowning element of the collection, but if pressed I might give the nod to Isle of Innisfree. The combination of her voice and her harp is truly enchanting and I believe this version surpasses even that of the recording she did with Celtic Woman. What I particularly appreciate about Orla Fallon, as I've observed in her DVD for this album as well as the concert performances I've seen of her both as a solo artist and with Celtic Woman, is that she seems to sincerely enjoy making music. She is a serious and talented artist but does not seem to hold herself aloof and distant, but she fully enters into her music and enjoys sharing her talents with her audience. I would love to have the opportunity to meet her in person.
