I loved the range of characters in these stories, some young, some middle aged, one in seventies and another in her eighties. All of them are interesting people with a lot of fire, certainly is encouraging for those of us who are getting older but not slowing down. Much as I loved the characters though I thought the settings were just wonderful. I've never been to New England but after reading The Haven and Waiting for Lindy I'm ready to go. My favorite was the one about the woman who married the Cajun guy and then went home with him. I lived near Broussard, La for years and I felt like I was back there again.

All of the stories present interesting situations, too. This isn't formula romance! The stories deal with complex situations, infidelity and childlessness and even murder. Every story leaves you with something to think about. My only complaint is that the book is too short. I read the stories one right after the other and then wanted more. I hope Valentine keeps writing because I'm ready to read about more of the people in her world.

Kathleen Valentine's writing takes you to a place that is rich in flavor and so real that you feel that you have known the characters forever. You can smell the breezes, hear the laughter and feel the tug of emotions that color each story. Each and every one is unique and complete and yet they all speak of the yearning to love and be loved that is as old as time. They reminded me of the fragility of the human heart, whether you are the one doing the loving or the one being loved. I did not want the stories to end as I came to care about each and every character. I have a feeling that I will be carrying their stories in my heart for some time.

Anyone who writes with the passion and sensitivity of Ms Valentine will surely go on to many romances whatever her age or geographical location. Her descriptions of people and settings allowed my mind full color images with vivid details. I especially enjoyed her men in these stories- we must like the same type.
