Book Description

May 13, 2008
Dubbed the "Mayor of Running," Bart Yasso is one of the best-known figures in the sport, but few people know why he started running competitively, how it changed his life, or how his brush with a crippling illness nearly ended his career a decade ago. With insight and humor, My Life on the Run chronicles the heatstroke and frostbite, heartache and triumphs he’s experienced while competing in more than 1,000 competitive races during his nearly 30 years with Runner’s World magazine.
Yasso gives valuable and practical advice on how to become a runner for life and continually draw joy from the sport. He also offers practical guidance for beginners, intermediate, and advanced runners, such as 5-K, half-marathon, and marathon training schedules including his innovative technique known as the Yasso 800s.
Recounting his adventures in exotic locales like Antarctica, Africa, and Chitwan National Park in Nepal (where he was chased by an angry rhino), Yasso recommends the best exotic marathons for runners who want to grab their passports to test themselves on foreign terrain. With the wit and wisdom of a seasoned insider, he tells runners what they need to know to navigate the logistics of running in an unfamiliar country.
Yasso’s message is this: Never limit where running can take you because each race has the potential for adventure.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Running has taken Yasso to races allover the planet...and repeatedly thrust him into stranger-than-fiction scenarios. For years, people have asked him to recount his experiences in a book-and now he has."-Runner's World" --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Travel Read, June 12, 2008

This review is from: My Life on the Run: The Wit, Wisdom, and Insights of a Road Racing Icon (Hardcover)
All in all, I thought this book was very entertaining. I am an intermediate runner, who loves to hear the experiences of other runners. The stories contained are all well written and entertaining. This will motivate current runners to try and experience new races and novice runners to get off the coach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational Read, May 17, 2008
This review is from: My Life on the Run: The Wit, Wisdom, and Insights of a Road Racing Icon (Hardcover)
Whether you are a seasoned runner or an aspiring beginner this book is worth the read. As I read this book I found myself catapulted from deep contemplation to laughter within the course of a few sentences.
Through this collection of stories Yasso takes us through the highs and lows of his life and the great joy of running (and biking). He offers salient advice for those who want to run better without making it sound like a "how to" section.
Whether you run or just read this is a book of inspiration that is too good to pass up on.
