4.0 out of 5 stars Good Travel Read
All in all, I thought this book was very entertaining. I am an intermediate runner, who loves to hear the experiences of other runners. The stories contained are all well written and entertaining. This will motivate current runners to try and experience new races and novice runners to get off the coach.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great
This book was alright. Yasso's achievements and athleticism are obviously impressive but something was lacking in the writing. I found parts of it to be boring. I'm still on the look out for a book about running that is comparable to: Born to Run by C. McDougall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational Read, May 17, 2008
This review is from: My Life on the Run: The Wit, Wisdom, and Insights of a Road Racing Icon (Hardcover)
Whether you are a seasoned runner or an aspiring beginner this book is worth the read. As I read this book I found myself catapulted from deep contemplation to laughter within the course of a few sentences.
Through this collection of stories Yasso takes us through the highs and lows of his life and the great joy of running (and biking). He offers salient advice for those who want to run better without making it sound like a "how to" section.
Whether you run or just read this is a book of inspiration that is too good to pass up on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Read for Long Distance Runners, September 14, 2009
I am a big fan of Bart Yasso's book, `My life on the run: the wit, wisdom, and insights of a road racing icon.' His stories of running with a burro in Colorado, running in Death Valley in California, and dodging wild animals in India are funny and a testament to the exciting life a long distance runner can lead. Perfect read on the couch for that snowy day when you can't get out and run.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super read, heck of a great guy!, February 2, 2009
This review is from: My Life on the Run: The Wit, Wisdom, and Insights of a Road Racing Icon (Hardcover)
For a couple of months I have seen this book advertised in Runners World. I thought it looked funny and thought about getting it but never got around to it. Then, I went to the expo for the Phoenix Rock n Roll Marathon. Bart Yasso was there selling his book. I thought- here's my chance. I bought it, he signed it, and I had my picture taken with him. His book was super enjoyable, laugh out loud funny, and really helpful. I am going to add his training methods to my runs. The cool thing is-he is really that nice. Here I am some middle of the packer talking to him and telling him what my favorite marathon was. He listened, said how much he liked that one, too, and wished me well! Made my day!

Mr. Yasso has produced a nice little running book about the places he's run and the people he has met. This is an easy, breezy read. Mr. Yasso does not seem too take himself to seriously and we can all live vicariously through his globe trotting adventures. I skipped past the training programs (You can pick one up in any running magazine, any month) but I did enjoy his list of favorite races. This book is a nice addition to your library of running books.

This is an intelligent book with GREAT stories from Mr. Yasso. I loved it. I laughed out loud in some of the situations he faces. You won't find a better read--runner or not!

I started reading "My Life On The Run" the night before I ran the New York Marathon and finished the book the night before running The Philadelphia Marathon. Bart is funny and encouraging! Read the book. Run a marathon. You may just even hear Bart at the marathon start line wishing you well and again at the finish line cheering you home as I did in Philadelphia Marathon 2011.

This is a great book with a lot of great stories. I am not a marathon runner but hope to run at least one. I was inspired by Barts life and his determination to do something that he loves. Thanks for this great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coffee For The Brain Book Reviews, October 17, 2011
This was a great read. I bought this book after listening to him speak at the pasta dinner for the Quad Cities Marathon. He shared some of the stories from the book and I just had to read about his other adventures.

You are not going to gain a lot of knowledge about running strategies from this book. What you will gain is an appreciation for the running world and how cool the world really is. He has been all over and has been able to witness the true essence of the human spirit.

The back of the book does contain some training plans. I have not used them, but look like something beneficial to incorporate.

If you need a good read with some great laughs, some powerful stories, some interesting characters, and good old storyteller Bart Yasso at the forefront, then this book is for you.
