Oh yeah, she already said that dozens of times in her book.
Sandra L. Hendrickson
She cites one performance Barbra gave (years ago in Las Vegas) and basically wrote her off because it didn't meet Ms Warwick's standard of singing to the audience.
This is a must read for every devoted Warwick fan and enjoyable read for anyone.

Having a career that spans over 50 years, one would think that Dionne Warwick would have plenty of interesting and inspiring stories of success and survival that she would be able to tell. I have been a fan of Dionne's for many years and after learning about her plans to release an autobiography, I was absolutely thrilled. However, this turned out to be the most boring book I have ever read.

As another reviewer already mentioned here, her book is nothing more than a big long list of names and events. I respect her decision to not delve into any negativity or personal drama, but it seems like this book was written overnight. For example, there is an entire page dedicated to her discussion of the "walk of fame" in her home-state of New Jersey. She mentions that she expects that this walk of fame will be filled with names of doctors, singers, actors, politicians, writers, activists, etc., in the future. This list of professions takes up an entire paragraph alone. Unfortunately, almost the entire book is written in this fashion.

After such a long and successful career, it is unfortunate that Dionne Warwick wrote such an impersonal and general description of her life. I guess that's why it is called, "My Life, As I See It". Steer clear from this book, unless you want to learn what day Dionne sets up her Christmas tree and learn what she considers to be "good hair". To top it off, she thanks herself at the end of her own book. After reading this book and watching her disrespectful behavior on "Celebrity Apprentice", I have lost a lot of respect for her.

Dionne Warwick, the legendary lady of POP tells her story as she sees it. (After being under public radar for years!) Not much new was discovered by me after reading this autobiography.
I did enjoy her stories about her early years in show business. Particularly, the Scepter record label years, her reaction to first hearing herself on the radio and all the many talented people she has met throughout her travels. Warwick keeps the tone of the book positive in her recollections. I wanted dirt and didn't get any. Always a lady, she avoids fessing up details about her love affairs. Singer/actress, Darlene Love wrote in her bio that Warwick had a thing with Isaac Hayes. Warwick just says they toured together and were friends. The late Isaac Hayes publically said he and Warwick were romantically involved on Entertainment Tonight. "She had the legs of life!" (quote from Issac) Recording artist legend, Ron Isley dated Warwick in the 1960s.
No mention of that in this book. A few years ago, Isley teamed with Burt Bacharach for a remake CD, he stated that he courted Warwick. Teddy Pendergrass and Ms. Warwick were rumored to be hot and heavy shortly before his car crash left him paralyzed. So, the lady just doesn't kiss and tell. As for her Psychic infomercial stint, she does say that it was done as a means to keep her bills paid. Because of her unselfish humanitarian efforts on world hunger and AIDS research, I chose to overlook Ms. Warwick's many omissions and give this book five stars. Five stars for this effort. Five stars for having long, long career in the fickle business of show. Five stars for just surviving and continuing on like the Energizer Rabbit! Five stars for being a true legend and my favorite female vocalist of all time (including those living, those dead and those to be discovered or born)! WOW! I waited so long for this. Thanks Simon and Schuster for getting something from her finally.

I was so excited when I first heard that Dionne Warwick was going to be writing her autobiography as I have been a fan of her music for over 30 years (I fell in love with her music with her 1979 release of "Dionne". I loved that album so much that I had to buy two copies of it as I wore out the first copy!). That album made me search out her earlier music and I fell in love with her 60's songbook.

I must say that her book does not disappoint! What a career! Reading her book makes me wonder if the era of 50 plus year careers in the entertainment field is a dying art form. (Not too many Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Johnny Mathis, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, Earth, Wind & Fire, Dolly Parton, Barry Manilow, etc. are on the horizon.) Sure, today we have Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum and other "flavors of the minute", burning up the music charts, but do you really think that in 2060, they will be writing a career filled book about their adventures in the musical field of Entertainment? Only time will tell I suppose...

What I really enjoyed about this book is the warmth and honesty as told by Ms. Warwick. I found myself laughing out loud at times (I love what she says would happen if PETA ever decided to throw some "liquid" at her while she is wearing one of her furs!) and at other times feeling her sadness for losses of family members and entertainment friends (of which the musical field, especially R&B, has loss way too many way too soon... Luther Vandross, Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass, Michael Jackson, Dee Dee Warwick, Isaac Hayes, Gerald Levert, etc.).

It was nice reading thru her words about the music she recorded and the stories behind some of her biggest hits.
