Editorial Reviews

Forever-bubbling Gale Storm, with her cute eye-crinkling demeanor, was paired with distinguished looking Charles Farrell in the TV sitcom My Little Margie, which had a four year run beginning in 1952. In this hilarious series, the two played father and daughter, Vern and Margie Albright, who always got into comical predicaments. Hillary Brooke was Vern's love interest on the show. Many of the episodes start with separate monologues of father and daughter pondering over their problems (`Believe me...I've got a problem') and close with framed portraits of each one coming to life with funny little `morals' for the home viewers. The Collection contains 12 complete 30-minute episodes on 2 double-layered DVDs. Episode Titles - Disc #1: Margie & The Shah, Papa & Mambo, The San Francisco Story, Margie's Millionth Number, Corpus Delecti, and Margie Baby-Sits. Disc #2: The Hawaii Story, Vern's Winter Vacation, Miss Whoozis, Star of Khyber, The Unexpected Guest, and Honeyboy Honeywell. Bonus Features: Actor Bios| Episode Selection. Specs: 2-DVD5s; Dolby Digital Mono; 345 minutes; B&W; 1.33:1 Aspect Ratio; MPAA - NR; Year - 1952; SRP - $19.99.

"I Love Lucy" is probably THE greatest of the 1950's TV sitcoms, but "My Little Margie" runs a very close second. Gale Storm as Margie Albright and her father Vern played by Charles Farrell and Mr. Honeywell played by the Clarence Kolb are all superb. These are seasoned actors who take their roles seriously. In other words, they are there to make you laugh and they do an excellent job of doing it.
This collection of 12 episodes is well worth the price. The print and sound quality are wonderful for the most part. I just hope this company comes out with future collections. I've seen these over and over again, and I want more of "My Little Margie!"

Usually you look back at old programs like the Lone Ranger and think how hokey they were. Then you realize that you, being a kid at the time could enjoy them as they were.

Then there is "Topper" the TV show. It was one big smoking commercial.

Well I sort of counted on this happening with "My Little Margie" (Gale Storm.) Boy was I surprised. The plots are complex for the small period of time they have to execute in. Hokey or not they had me laughing. And Price per pound, you get so many episodes. I am working my way through them all and find some how they are comforting like an old friend. It is fun t spot the different actors in movies and say "I saw that person on"
`My Little Margie.'"

After viewing, I will put them on the shelf and they look good as a collection.

My Little Margie is a show which was popular in it's day. but dosen't see many airings these days. There are two 12-episode collections available from VCI here, and this review will be offered to cover both. Gale Storm delivers a sparkling performance as Margie Albright, a twentyish single gal sharing posh NY digs with her attractive widower father, Vern, played nicely by former silent-screen idol Charles Farrell. Hillary Brooke, a talented actress who dressed up many a B film in the 1940s has an occaisional role as Vern's sometime girl friend, Roberta Townsend. Willie Best plays the elevator operator in the Albright's apartment building, and he is a somewhat reluctant co-conspiritor in some of Margie's "schemes". Gertrude Hoffman as ditzy old Mrs. Odetts nearly steals every show she is featured in. If you enjoy nostalgic comedy shows which are well produced, check this out. The quality of the episodes as provided by VCI is very good.

Im 56 and I couldn't believe I had a chance of viewing movies I loved as a child. This is a fun loving movie of a father and daughter living together and Margie always making her fathers business her business. Pay attention to detail.the telephones cigarettes on the table set decorations. Fun viewing.

Given short shrift in most reviews is Clarence Kolb, a vaudevillian and character actor in many '30s and '40s films who played Vern Albright's boss, Mr. Honeywell. With his expressive face and old-school gestures, his characterization of the slightly manic company director elevates this show, especially with his notable catch phrase, "Albright, you're fired!" Just another good reason to enjoy this DVD collection.

I'm not really a big Gale Storm fan but something about this series makes the whole greater than the sum of its parts. Charming and lots of fun from a time when TV wasn't total garbage.

We were looking for an older Margie and got this by mistake. The other one never was put on DVD, but this Margie is pretty good too.
