This is just what little girls want to read before bed,
This review is from: My Little Pony: Belle of the Ball (I Can Read Book 1) (Paperback)
Great book because it has short words and little pictures (icons) woven in between so that the kids can help read the book too. It features 'princess/girlie' stuff like ponies and a castle and tiaras and a heart necklace.
This is a bedtime favorite at our house. Our daughter loves the "My Little Ponies" and this story is about the ponies getting ready for the ball, and about wishes coming true. Isn't that what every little girl wants to read about right before they drift off to sleep?

My daughter just loved her book and read it by herself and she is only 4! It came very quick! Too much tape on the envelope.

Cute Book, But Not Level 1,

This review is from: My Little Pony: Belle of the Ball (I Can Read Book 1) (Paperback)
This book is cute. My daughter loves it. She loves My Little Ponies. Not a hard sell, there. However, this book is written to be a Level 1 Beginning Reader. A Level 1 book should contain simple words, repeating letter patterns, and repeating phrases. This book has none of those things. Taking out words in the book and putting pictures in their place does not make it a Level 1 Reader. This book contains words that are very difficult for a beginning reader to read. This book is for the child fluent in reading, not a beginner. I'm very disappointed in the quality of Readers. They slap a popular character on the book and write a lack-luster story and say it is a Beginning Reader. It isn't. It is a cheap picture book with a lacking story line. Yes, my daughter liked the book. But no, she couldn't even come close to reading it.

Major Typo in Learning to Read Book,

This review is from: My Little Pony: Belle of the Ball (I Can Read Book 1) (Paperback)
This book is cute- BUT- there is a major ERROR.
On one page a pony is introduced as a "him" and on the next page the same pony is referred to as "her". It is very confusing to read- and teach your child to read, when it doesn't make sense. I can't believe such a mistake made it past an editor. Especially in a book meant specifically to teach reading. page 18- "Your wishes will come true," said a pretty pony. Butterflies were all around him. "My name is Star Catcher." "Wow!" said Twinkle Twirl. "You are a real pegasus pony." page 19- Star Catcher and her magic butterflies placed a crown on Twinkle Twirl's head. I Can Read, stage 1- "Simple sentences for eager new readers"??? |
