Poor quality, January 22, 2009
This review is from: My Little Pony: Pony Party (Paperback)
This book is little more than an inane advertisement for the toy line. They try to fit as many different ponies into the book as possible, I'd guess, in order to increase its appeal to current toy owners. ("Hey, Rainbow Dash is in this one! I have her! Can I get it, Daddy, please?") But the truth there is only enough space for each, save the main character, to make a "cameo" appearance, which is to say a brief advertisement.
Moreover, the pictures don't always correlate well with the text. On one page, for instance, three ponies are pictured but one of them receives no mention and has no dialog, while a different pony who is not pictured does have dialog. Did the proofreader miss that?
I don't expect complexity and depth in a book aimed at the preschool audience, as this one is, but the plot here is not just thin but also crooked. For instance, at one point Pinky Pie's cloak is torn, which makes her sad (a simple problem for resolution by the end). But this turn of events is completely forgotten in the rest of the book, and a new costume-related problem is introduced on the following page. At the end of the book, it even looks as if her tear has disappeared. Did the author change the storyline in the middle of creating the book and forget to remove the earlier plot trajectory? Was this a book written/revised by committee with little concern for cohesion, even in such a simple story?
In short, your kid won't likely notice the poor quality of this work, but you should look for something better.

Fun story for my preschooler, November 26, 2005
This review is from: My Little Pony: Pony Party (Paperback)
My 3 year old absolutely loves this book! She got this as a birthday present and had never heard of "My Little Pony" before. She's now their biggest fan.
Anyway, this story is her favorite. It's about the Little Ponies getting dressed up for a costume party and how friends can help make bad situations better. I read another review of these books that was critical of the storyline. Please - if you're expecting a great work of literature, look elsewhere! If you're looking for a simple, entertaining story for your little girl, these books are it.

This book is really cute. It shows Pinkie Pie who has her friends help her with her costume for a party. At the party she rips her costume. Her friends come to her rescue. Adorable lesson in friendship.
