5.0 out of 5 stars Almost Ultimate
An improvement over "All The Way", this collection of Celine's hits gets it right for the most part. There are of course, some notable exceptions ("Nothing Broken But My Heart" [A bigger hit than a lot of what's on this set!], "Misled", "If There Was Any Other Way" and most inexplicable of all, "When I Fall In Love." Really? Not essential enough for ya, Celine?) However,...

If your a lover of Celine Dion's music than this cd is a great deal. It's got all the old favorites, power ballads, and her newest wonders. Not essential enough for ya, Celine?) However, the inclusion of "Where Does My Heart Beat Now" is a big plus, as is "Tell Him", her duet with Barbra Streisand.
As for "rarities" we get "The Power Of The Dream" from the '96 Olympics, "You Make Me Feel (A Natural Woman)" from the international version of "Falling Into You" and the "Tapestry Revisited" album, as well as a song from one of her French language albums and two songs from tribute albums to Luther Vandross and Ennio Morricone. The two "new" songs consist of a live version of "My Love" from the Taking Chances album (which doesn't sound much different from the album version) and a forgettable song entitled "There Comes A Time).
So, in total, this is a good collection that could have been great, but until the next retrospective comes along, and you know it will, this will do just fine.

Note: "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" is NOT the single version, but the full seven-and-a-half minute album version. The studio version of "My Love" is included as a hidden track at the end of disc two.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very cool...but just misses the "ultimate" mark with a few omissions of awesome songs not found on this collection, November 19, 2008
Celine Dion is a music artist that has had music that has been part of my life. May it be a song that would be a song dedicated at a certain time of my relationship or a friend's relationship to a song that just touched you (or annoyed you).

Celine Dion was like "Boyz II Men" in terms of songs that people listened to if they were in love or just broken up with someone. So, I'm sure there are a large number of people who will definitely have a strong sense of nostalgia when they here a lot of the songs featured on this album.

But when I first hear Celine Dion's voice (this was a time before was singing in English), I was in love with her voice and to see her grow in popularity in the 1990's and have hit after hit, I was definitely proud of her accomplishments.

So, here we are with a new compilation album featuring many of her hit songs throughout the years and for those who have not owned a Celine Dion album, then you can definitely have the majority of her hits through the album "My Love: Essential Collection" which features a total of 17 tracks and for those who do own a lot of her music, they can get the "My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection" which features unreleased songs.

From the classic hits such as "Where Does My Heart Beat Now", "Beauty and the Beast", "If You Ask Me To", "Because You Loved Me", "The Power of My Love", "My Heart Will Go On", "To Love You More" and many other countless hits. But also some surprises such as the live version of "Taking Chances" and "My Love" and many more other songs that were unreleased and not familiar with but I was a bit surprised that there were songs such as "misled" and "Nothing Broken But My Heart" but also my favorite songs "Colour of My Love" and "When I Fall In Love". So, for me... and that is for me, I can't call this an ultimate essential collection but it is a pretty cool compilation album nonetheless.

I will have to say that it's not exactly an "Ultimate Essential Collection" for me because there are two Celine Dion songs that are my favorites not featured on this album and that is "Colour of my Love" and the "Sleepless in Seattle" ballad "When I Fall in Love" featuring Celine and Clive Griffin. Without these two incredible songs included, it's hard to call this compilation an "Ultimate Essential Collection".

But perhaps that is me being a bit picky on the tracklist because there are a lot of awesome tracks on this compilation but missing a few that would be truly an ultimate essential collection of Celine Dion's hits.

But nevertheless, there are many songs that I are simply nostalgic. I'm probably one of the few who was not sicken by the overplaying of the "Titanic" ballad "Where My Heart Goes On".

Also, with a song "To Love You More" which opened me up to the music of Kryzler and Company and had me searching for the Japanese soundtrack of "Koibito yo" for the different versions of this cool song.

And who can not listen to "Because You Loved Me" and not think of that person you broke up with. There are just so many of those nostalgic songs from the past that I'm glad to see included on this compilation.

So, if you have not owned a Celine Dion album but are looking to have one to own, then definitely check out "My Love: Essential Collection" or "My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection".

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome choice for those that just want greatest hits, December 31, 2008
I own every Celine CD and I adore just about every song on them. There are wonderful songs that were never released as singles but I can play them over and over again because I have all the CDs. My Love- is a great way to own just about every single Celine has ever come out with, without needing to by all her other CDs. Just about every song on it is familiar and there are even a couple of pleasant surprises.

All the major songs are on here and some of her lesser ones (that I adore as well) like, 'I drove all night', 'My Love', River Deep, Mountain High, and The Prayer duet. Just all wonderful to listen to. The only tiny gripe I have is with the song, 'Love Can Move Mountains'. For some reason i detest that song, but she chooses to sing it at her concerts and to include it on here. I NEVER listen to that one. But really, that's about it. Every other song is so worth it and I'm glad she finally chose to come out with a true greatest hits CD.

Yes, there are a few songs I wish were on here, but you can't make everyone happy. But this comes pretty close!

4.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!, November 20, 2008
I have every english album of Celine's, and I gotta tell you, I'm very picky when it comes to music. Celine just does it for me. She may be a little weird when it comes to personality and body language, but I think it is great she does her own thing and doesn't care what bad things people have to say. She is no doubt a nice and caring person, which was proven on the meet and greet shown on her A New Day Live DVD.

This album features Celine's hits, but not all of them. I miss the hits Nothing Broken But My Heart, Misled, Think Twice, Immortality, Have You Ever Been In Love, ONe Heart, and I think the Album needed some more new songs, never released. Thats the only reason I gave this album 4 stars. I find it a great album because you can keep playing it, non-stop, and like every song. I just think some new recordings would have been nice to have.

All In all, a great album for a new fan or just anyone who wants a CD where they don't have to keep searching the disc for a good song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Celine Dion, My KInd Of Artist, April 15, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have loved her music for years. Having seen her live in concert, on dvd with her vegas show, and on cd, I have come to appreciate the talent, beauty, and grace that is Celine Dion. She comes from a large family, has a loving husband and son, and stays out of the tabloids. She's an artist I can respect, and whos songs I can fell the passion and enjoyment she puts into her work and gets out of it.

I admire her ability, and here on these two discs is compiled her entire English language history of her hit songs. Both discs have songs to enjoy, both new and old, including "River Deep, Mountain High", which I was fortunate enough to see live in Houston this past January.

As soon as I saw this collection, I knew I had to own it.

If your a lover of Celine Dion's music than this cd is a great deal. It's got all the old favorites, power ballads, and her newest wonders. However, upon arrival I could not believe the state of the item. The entire cd cover was crushed and slashed through. The actual inserted booklet was ruined. The only sabivg grace is that the cd was not damaged. I was so upset, I almost sent it back, but realized that it would cost more in returns than the purchase price of the cd and it would take so much longer to get here. Hopefully yours if you choose to buy it will be handled with much more care from amazon. I buy a lot of merchandise from amazon and somethings have come slightly damaged but not as extensively as this item. I hope in the future they are more careful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cant stop listening ..., January 2, 2009
By
In the last ten years I have heard many songs of Celine Dion in films, on soundtracks, my favorite radio station etc., yet I never came around to buy a CD from her.

I bought this double CD to listen to her best songs and I just cant stop listening to it. This is a double CD where you can enjoy EVERY single song thats on it !!

First is obviously her clear and beautiful voice, but its also that her (love) songs come across believable. It doesnt sound like somebody that is just reading the text. Its in how she pronounces the words that make it so enjoyable to listen to.

I can not rave enough for this CD.
It's an absolute terrific CD and highly recommended !!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Power of Celine, November 8, 2008
Celine Dion's compilation album, My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection includes a wonderful array of Celine's staple hits as well as some more obscure songs that the general public has not heard nearly as much as her big ballads.

The songs included are well balanced with singles like " The Power of Love", "Because You Loved Me" (Theme from Up Close and Personal), "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" and "My Heart Will Go On" (Love theme from Titanic). These famous singles are well intertwined with lesser known songs such as "The Power of the Dream", which she sang at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and "Tell Him" which was a duet with the legendary Barbra Streisand.

If you enjoy the classic Dion singles of the 90's as well as the newer and lesser known songs, then My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection is a wonderful inclusion to your music collection. Celine has, yet again created another wonderful album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simply, Celine, October 28, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Honestly, with so many wannabe divas really feeling more like they are just about the looks on the outside, and just the gab alone, whether it is Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez or the overexposed Rihanna, it is just so sad that the simplicity of the songs alone, just doesn't do enough to click with the listeners. That is sad, especially when you listen to older divas like Whitney Houston or Madonna, who haven't really clicked with the new generation, but deliver strong with the classics. That also is said for Celine Dion, whom for the past several years delivered well from a hugely successful Las Vegas headliner for the past couple of years, but hasn't made a stride with record sales. Well, now that is about to change, with a new reflection of her smash era of songs.

The 2008 My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection, does a much better job at reflecting on Celine's 20 year career of her big hits, where the single disc edition sadly crashed and burned with die hard fans. The double album edition is great for newcomers who haven't yet heard her heart go on, or the simplicity of her voice, this is so far the most definitive of her greatest hits. The songs here have all been remastered very well, and mostly doesn't dissapoint. The extended edition delivers with her biggest hits including her standards My Heart Will Go On from Titanic, the elequent Beauty & The Beast with soulful singer Peabo Bryson, to her recent hits Taking Chances, and her cover of Cyndi Lauper's I Drove All Night. The album also brings in the big can't miss moments that appeal well that were also overshadowed from her 1999 All The Way: A Decade Of Song collection, including her duet Tell Him with the legendary songstress Barbara Streisand, To Love You More, and her surprising cover of the late Luther Vandross ballad Dance With My Father. There are also a few new tracks here including the title track, My Love and I Knew I Loved You. But just like the single disc, Essential Collection, there are a few of her big songs that were overlooked (but thankfully not as many as the single disc smaller version.) The album does overlook a few of her standards including Have You Ever Been In Love?, her recent cover of Heart's Alone, When I Fall In Love from Sleepless In Seattle, Misled from The Colour Of Love album.

Nevertheless, My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection does honestly deliver, as a much better greatest hits collection that die hard Celine Dion fans had honestly wished for, and welcomes her stanadrds well to that new era that missed out on the elequent beauty of her voice. I absolutely recommend this double album, as a great addition to your MP3 Library or to your record collection. If there is a collection that you can still say your heart will go on to, this one is almost as close to definitive from Celine Dion you can get as possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love the music of Celine Dion, October 29, 2008
By
Celine Dion has been around for two decades now. This two disc set has all her greatest hits and some new tracks. I have most of these songs on CD already, but with this two disc set, I don't have to dig out the old discs any more I love the Beauty and The Beast theme and "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic. I love her earlier hits like "If You Asked Me To" and "Where Does My Heart Beat Now". I love her new song "My Love" very much. This song is beautiful. David Foster's piano playing is great here. The other relatively new song here is "Taking Chances". I like this song a lot. I love her duet "The Prayer" with Andrea Boceli. This song is lovely. "Por Que Tu Maime" is a pretty song that Celine sings in her native French tougue. This track is a highlight for me. I love the voice and music of Celine Dion.
