Honoring black men.,

This review is from: My Love Notes to a Black Man (Paperback)
In this beautiful coffee table presentation, author Lana Reid beautifully, rhythmically, and respectfully declares her love for Black men. Not only is the cover a wonderful work of art demonstrating the strength of a black man as he reaches out and holds a black woman in the palm of his hands, the poems also succinctly uplift the black man. She talks of the hardships of loving them, the ease as well as conflict of understanding them, and finally, the beauty and intimacy that can result from loving them.Simply put, MY LOVE NOTES TO A BLACK MAN is beautiful! Ms. Reid's prose, coupled with the appropriately disbursed charcoal drawings of black love, is breath-taking. This is a book that I'd proudly present to my husband and also showcase in full display for the world to see. Reviewed by Tee C. Royal

A Pleasant Suprise!,

Lana's love notes were a pleasure for me to read. I was enlightened by them. The poems didn't focus on negativity, but instead they took me through the joys and pains (physical, mental and spiritual) of the black relationship from a woman's perspective. This book is enciteful, sensuous and very tastefully done. I highly recommend this literature.

Loving Prose For Our Men...,
By Reader (Montgomery, AL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Love Notes to a Black Man (Paperback)
Ms. Reid is one poet that has moved me to tears with such thought provoking and beautiful words in support and in honesty of our black men. This collection of love notes is a wonderful compilation of signature poetry that only someone with a clear understand and grasp of the English language could write. The author's command of our language made this a standout collection. She is able to deepen the reader's appreciation for conveying feelings and emotions. I am proud to have this be placed upon my coffee table, for everyone to read. The author separates her love notes in to four sections: Painful Love Notes, Meditative Love Notes, Supportive Love Notes and Sensual Love Notes. Each section is filled with poetry that elicits the response to each of the sections. One poem in particular moved me to tears. Deep. Every poem in this book is worth reading it and breathing it. That is how deep they are. That is how much they pull you in not with rhymes but a rhythm not all poets can understand or duplicate. However, I do have several favorites. They are: Trash Day, We Theorems, The Kings of My People, Reflections On a Look, Before, Lesson To a Dad, And I Watch, Porches, A Different Kind of "I Do", No Comparison, When a Brotha Makes Love to You, The Difference in My Sexual Mood and May I Kiss You. This book is a must read for those who relish in poetry and love the feelings invoked from reading great poetry. It is a must read for all the brotha's out there. Ms. Reid makes an honest portrayal of black men and recognizes their faults and strengths and relishes in knowing she could not be without a black man. This is a wonderful and positive reflection of our black men. Recommended.

I visited a friend, this book was on the coffee table. I picked it up and "Wow," was all I could say. As I turned each page and read each poem I was proud to be a sister. "What greatness'" is what I said to my friend. I am the founder of a book club and I will be presenting this book to my entire club. Lana you are all that! God Bless
