Although mostly known for her blissful songs, neo soul songstress Jill Scott has never shied away from the rotten pain of heartache. The late night confusion of My Love finds Jilly from Philly completely blindsided by the news that an old flame has married another woman.Even though his wife is "sweet as pie", "scrubs your back", "washes your clothes" and "gives you everything that you ask for", she reminds him that none of it holds a candle to what she has. "My love is deeper, tighter, sweeter, higher, flyer/Didn't you know this?/Or didn't you notice?" her dismayed voice asks on a bed of lush, cascading strings and yearning background vocals. So much emotion that Jill herself was brought to tears in the video. She also admitted that she was channeling Sarah Vaughan on this one and she wasn't lying. Just beautiful. |
