4.0 out of 5 stars Their beacon..., July 29, 2007

This review is from: My Lover, My Friend (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
How do two highly-motivated, workaholics, who used to be best friends, reaffirm their emotional lives and remain friends?

Dr. Rosamond Albright lives to help other people, medicine is the perfect vehicle, as it gives her a sense of pride and fulfills her instinct to serve. While completing her residency in Boston, she fell in love, married and was widowed in a few short months. A devastated Rose returns to her hometown in Lighthouse, Maine to hide. She has the perfect alibi; Lighthouse has one doctor and he plans to retire at the end of the year.

Evan Harper, also a native of Lighthouse, has fulfilled his dream; he is an accomplished speechwriter in the political arena of Washington, D.C. Two years earlier Evan lost his three-month-old son in a fire, and Evan's demons are still chasing him. After an unexpected, violent tirade at work, Evan knows he is on 'emotionally thin ice'. He heads home to settle himself and heal.

MY LOVER, MY FRIEND immediately catches readers, as it exploits the primary characters' broken dreams. Rose and Evan have not seen each other in over ten years, and in the wake of recapturing their teenage bond, they realize their friendship has run its course. How Ms. Hailstock brings them together is deliberate and arousing. There is no high-paced drama and no easy fixes, just a good solid story. Physical therapy works wonders, as they paint the towns lighthouse, they tear down their individual barriers, but they erect new ones. Can they heal each other, or will happiness elude them again? For a slow-hand read that will absorb your thoughts, grab a copy, find a quiet corner, and relax.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow story but okay read, March 3, 2010

This book does move very slow. I found myself putting the book down a couple of times however something within the story would cause me to pick the book back up. I did finish it and wasn't that impressed nor disappointed. This book is a slow and easy read. The story is not really exciting but it gets the point across. An okay read for me.

2.0 out of 5 stars IT'S LIKE WATCHING PAINT DRY!!!, November 22, 2006
This review is from: My Lover, My Friend (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book moves extremely slow. The two main characters have mental health issues that keeps them mired and bogged down and extends to second to last page. I wouldn't waste money on it, find a library if you must read it.
