My Mail List and Address Book

Way back in the DOS days of computer, I relied on a simple, but very usable program called "My Mail List" for my various mailing list needs, which included membership and mailing lists for several rather large organizations. A couple of computers and Windows operating systems later, I finally needed to find another program to use...and was delighted to find that "My Mail List" was actually still out there. Version 7 is extremely easy to use, allows, in addition to the usual fields, 6 fields that can be customized by the user. The user can print addresses for labels, envelopes, letters, booklets, postcards and shipping labels, all of which can be designed by the user from a template. Address book data can be entered on a "data entry" window, which looks like filling out a form, or be entered on a data table, which looks much like an Excel file or other database file. If the user already has an address book in another program to import to My Mail List, that can be done using common .csv, .tsv, .txt or .exp file formats. My Mail List files can also be exported to other programs (such as Excel) by being saved in one of those common file formats as well.

There are a lot of nice little features in this program, and the help section and user's guide are very well organized and easy to understand.

The only thing that might be a little confusing is that when a mailing list is saved (generally to My Documents), there are actually four files that are saved. There is the main file, which the user clicks on to open the address list and the program, and three supporting files, which are not opened by the user, but just have to be there for the list to work properly. The files are easy to tell apart because the icon of the "main" file is different from the other 3. Anyone who may e-mail a list to someone else would need to remember to include all 4 files.

I thought this program would be easier to navigate than it is. I never had any problem entering the data. My problem is the address fields and getting them to print on different size envelopes. I ended up printing the User's Guide so I wouldn't have to deal with the small windows in the help guide. I think it will be a good software program but it isn't as simple as it looks. I wish I had someone to guide me through it.

I am highly pleased with this product. It is so easy to organize your addresses and the items you can produce from this software is amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for an easy creative way to store and print-out their addresses & mail lists. B.Godwin

This is the easiest program to use for keeping accurate information about each person listed in the data base. I highly recommend this software to anyone maintaining up-to-date mailing lists for organizations such as churches, reunion groups, small businesses and the like. The possibilities are endless depending on the size of the group being entered into this program.

I realize that my review is not about this product, but I think it is relevant to potential purchasers of Avanquest products. I do not know anything about this particular program, but have had considerable difficulty with Avanquest as detailed below.

I purchased My Ultimate Organizer 7.0 via download and subsequent key.

I am not making this up - the product displayed a message in Serbo-Croatian telling me the key had expired.

Four hours later with Technical Support and the problem is still not resolved (despite erasing the program, reinstalling, trying different keys, searching the Windows Registry, etc). It takes a full hour on hold to get a technical support representative and at the conclusion of the last session, I was told to contact Customer Service for a CD copy in the hopes that that would resolve the issue. Now Customer Service tells me Technical Support must send me the copy, although Technical Support says otherwise. I am out $30 for a program that is at this point, totally useless, and left adrift by Avanquest who has my money and refuses to help me.

I would purchase Avanquest products with extreme caution. If you have a Technical Support issue, you will have to wait a minimum of 60 minutes on hold (no 800 number), and then get fairly substandard service after that.

I have had trouble getting the information in to the program. There are no instructions as to providing "Mr. and Mrs." for mail - no instructions for what some of the categories are for. If I could figure it out, I think I would like it. So far, I have entered some addresses but have not been able to use the program successfully. Wasted money? Maybe not. Maybe I just need more time to figure it out. But........ A suggestion would be for someone writing software to try to use it.

We found it very difficult to import data from the My Mail List program I had been using for years to the new one. It seems to me that like a lot of other programs we have, all the data should have been downloaded to the new one when the new one was installed.

Dont buy this product or any My Software product as they do not offer support.

I have used versions of this for years to do my Christmas cards, birthday cards, packages etc. Worked great until I tried to change computers and transfer my files. Lost all my mail lists. Big problem when trying to transfer your program and download your files to another computer. The new computer and this program will not allow you to download your old files into the program again. If you start to call tech support, pull out your credit card and expect to be charged a BIG charge for their technical advice...... No new updates for Windows 7. Time for new program, for sure.

I've been using MYMAILLIST for 15 years with success. However, the USPS (Post Office) is expiring the POSTNET Barcoding method beginning May of 2011. I've been trying to contact MYMAILLIST/AVANQUEST, however, they don't seem to be aware of this issue. If you are purchasing this software to create Bulk Mailings, DO NOT BUY IT unless the company addresses this issue.
