5.0 out of 5 stars The best book I have found, March 23, 2006
As an adult daughter of an alcoholic mother, I have read several ACoA books but never really found anything that spoke to me like My Mama's Waltz did. I was amazed at how many issues stem from growing up with an alcoholic mother. It was so comforting to read others' experiences and know that I'm not crazy and other women are going thru the same things. This book is a gem and I have recommended it to my three sisters and a girlfriend. So far, everyone has loved it as much as I did. If you are an adult daughter of an alcoholic mother you have to read this book!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Healing words, July 16, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: My Mama's Waltz (Paperback)
I have not even finished this book yet, but already I feel like I'm healing. My mother was an alcoholic (now dry), her mother was an alcoholic, and I used to drink heavily myself. It's shedding light on some of my tendencies (trying to bend over backwards to please everyone, feeling abandoned by my mom at times, and so on). It also explains to me some of her behaviors and why she has anger lingering in her life and how it affects her still. Very insightful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, June 25, 2003
By A Customer
My mother was not an alcoholic, but her mother was. I helped me to understand my mother so much better and how being raised by an alcoholic effected her life. As a person in recovery 7 yrs and now a mom, this book solidified my sobriety to see what a burden an alcoholic mother can be to a child. Thank You.

It WAS Real. The things you experienced with your alcoholic mother WERE real.

Other people have been through the same horror, guilt, and despair. I found this book very comforting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Validation.....at last, February 2, 2000
This is a must read for anyone searching for a connection that it WAS real...Daughters of alcoholic mothers may feel isolated in their childhood experiences due to the family secrecy. I'm thankful this book found me as I begin to remember the pain of my mother's death, and the struggle of her life. Thank you-

I really enjoyed hearing other stories of daughters of alcoholic mothers. It aided in my therapy because it helped me remember events that I was having a hard time remembering. I found that my situation was much like others. Therefore, I didn't feel so alone. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have been looking for this book for 5 years, July 29, 1998
This wonderful book was written for those of us who have been held hostage by our alcoholic mothers for far too long. Eleanor Agnew and Sharon Robideaux have given me a gift. They have helped me to come to terms with the misplaced guilt I have felt for most of my life. Their stories and those of the women they interviewed for this book have an amazingly recurrent theme. I never knew that there were so many women out there like me. Adult daughters of alcoholic mothers carry an incredible burden which affects every aspect of their lives. Agnew and Robideaux have done an excellent job of organizing their book into a guide for understanding what has happened in our wacky lives and how we can move on to sanity. The women who shared their stories, including the authors, have done a great service to all of us daughters of alcoholic mothers by letting us know that we are not alone....... Thank you Eleanor Agnew and Sharon Robideaux, from the bottom of my he! art, thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is excellent., September 16, 1999
This book helped me deal with my mother's alcoholism in ways that I cannot describe. Through this book, I have begun to understand myself and why I think along this train of thought, and how to stop this train. The book has been very comforting, the book understands me. Ellie and Sharon, thank you. This book was one that should have been published a long time ago. I highly advise other daughters of alcoholic mothers to read this. It is a manual of our lives.
