4.0 out of 5 stars My Mind's Made Up.....It's A Keeper!
It's been nearly four years since we last heard from Heather Headley. 3.0 out of 5 stars In My Mind...................this one is a Keeper!
Heather headly Comes back to show shes in the game for more than just one hit and also to give us a few more. You can see she is a true singer just by listening. It also didnt hurt that she did broadway which would explain her ease and belting it out at the drop of a dime. This time around she brings in different prodcers and has a moreof a mix between uptempo/midtempo...

4.0 out of 5 stars My Mind's Made Up.....It's A Keeper!, February 2, 2006
This review is from: In My Mind (Audio CD)
It's been nearly four years since we last heard from Heather Headley. After the Trinidad native scored a Tony Award in 1998 for her role in Aida and releasing her debut album This Is Who I Am on RCA Records in 2002, the songstress has finally returned to bless the music world with another album. For Headley, this is a true test to see if she was just lucky or if she has what it takes to make it in today's R&B market. In My Mind continues where her first album left off, giving us more of what we've been waiting for...real soul music.

She starts off with the first single "In My Mind," a song that rivals many R&B ballads the past couple years, as well as similar country songs as of late. "Am I Worth It" begs the question that most women want to ask the men in their lives. "Wait A Minute" is about not playing games with a man not doing what he's supposed to do in a relationship. "I Didn't Mean To" continues the whole notion of a man making excuses about messing up, summing up his actions as things he didn't mean to do. "How Many Ways" gives us a different sound than we're accustom to hearing from Heather, instead using an island-like rhythm and much faster lyrics from the singer. "Back When It Was" flashes back to the 1950s with Heather reminiscing about a past relationship over a doo-wop beat. "What's Not Being Said" discusses a no-good mate that's now left without giving a good reason for doing so.

"Losing You" deals with the happiness expressed after getting the no good man out of your life. Another island-based track called "Rain" featuring reggae artist Shaggy talks about how good love feels to a woman. "Letter" is a song about how Heather has to write a goodbye note instead of saying it in person because she can't stand to even see the no good man again. "Me Time" is pretty self-explanatory, while "Change" sounds like a song more suited for a sappy girl flick or something.

So listening to this album will leave you wanting to tell off your significant other, writing them a nasty note, and rejoicing in their departure from your life! ~LOL~ Seriously though, Heather does switch it up throughout the album, showing how you can be showered with love and have someone in your life that can alter it in a good way too. Although there may be one too many "no good man" songs, a lot of people out there can relate to the messages in those songs. In My Mind is definitely filled with emotion...something Heather Headley has mastered on Broadway and in music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice follow-up, February 1, 2006
This review is from: In My Mind (Audio CD)
I truly enjoyed Heather's first cd, but this cd by far supercedes the first. There are many "you done me wrong" songs but then there are also some great love songs and adding a twist are a few uptempo songs. Although I only purchased the cd late last evening I am steadily jamming it nonstop--even in my office as I type this review. Some highlights of the album are:

-In my mind (5/5)
-Am I Worth It (5/5) This song truly has some good lyrics for those entering into a new relationship.
-Wait A Minute (4/5) I think this has the potential to be a hit
-Rain w/ Shaggy (4/5) A uptempo hit
-Whats not being said (5/5) Great lyrics.
-Change (4/5) A great inspirational song and nice lyrics.

I only wished that Heather included 2-3 more tracks especially her contribution to the Diary of a Mad Black Woman soundtrack "Aint it Funny"

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Listening....., March 10, 2006
This review is from: In My Mind (Audio CD)
I heard this song on the radio and said to myself, "I really like that song". It was IN MY MIND by HEATHER HEADLEY. The lyrics were very touching. I saw Heather on TAVIS SMILEY'S T.V. show. She seemed like a nice sincere person. I heard snipets of her CD IN MY MIND on AMAZON.COM and went out and bought the CD the NEXT DAY. It's just fabulous. If you don't have it go buy it. I'm listening to it now. It's something you can listen to while in the car during rush hour on your way to or from work to ease the time in traffic. GREAT WORK MS. HEADLEY.

4.0 out of 5 stars Welcome back Heather !!, February 23, 2006
This review is from: In My Mind (Audio CD)
The R and B music scene today is sorely lacking in singers of substance these days, they are mostly cookie cutter singers who all sound alike. Heather breaks away from the rest of the pack and stands out as a first class singer. her broadway skills are very apparent on her albums and that is a good thing. If you appreciate good, mature and smart lyrics you will love this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A distinct voice in all genres!, January 24, 2007

Heather Headley was unknown to me until I saw this lovely lady singing a duet with Andrea Bocelli. I was watching Andrea Bocelli's "Under the Desert Sky" DVD (Must See). I'm thinking to myself who is this lovely lady with this amazing voice and how come I have not seen her before. So, I did some research and low-and-behold Heather Headley has a couple albums to her name. Also, she won a Tony award in 2000 for the Broadway musical "Aida."

"In My Mind" was released January 31, 2006. Her first album was the Grammy nominated "This Is Who I Am." I absolutely love her sophomore album. This album's songs are a relief from all of the songs that are currently played on the radio. Those songs are geared more towards having a great dance beat than actually the singer's voice. Heather Headley's vocal genre range is the prime emphasis on this album. Her range is taken from Country, Reggae Dancehall, R & B to Gospel with a little Doo-wop thrown in all on one CD. You just can't beat that on any other CD. Heather has distinct voice and sings crystal clear lyrics like a master craftsmen fine tuning a Stradivarius.

My favorite song is "Back When It Was" which is old school Doo-wop song with Lil Jon. I cranked up the volume on this song every time it is played. I even get many eye burning interested stares from others in range. "The Letter", "In My Mind", "Me Time" are all noted fantastic songs with relationship messages. But all of the songs on this album are worthy efforts. This CD is a must buy for your collection of women who can actually sing.

okay, i love, love, love this woman! this cd was very timely for me on so many levels. it's as if she knew! some may think that there is a bit of male bashing in there, but you know what? they could use a little from time to time! at first i thought of "in my mind" as a stalker's anthem, but that was before i had "the experience" myself. and i am by no means a stalker, but i understand where she's coming from. this cd is great fun, it's sexy, it's real! if you haven't done so already-- go get it... what are you waiting for???

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid album and her best., July 2, 2006
This review is from: In My Mind (Audio CD)
This album is good compare to her first one. There were some filler's on her debut, whereas every song on here is listen able. I have to say the highlight is the ending song "Change" which is accompanied by a gospel chorus. The others are good as well.

My other favorable tracks are:

*In my Mind - One of the best ballads on the cd
*Wait a Minute
*I didn't mean to
*How many ways
*What's not being said
*The letter
*Me time - nice lyrics

Overall this album is straight. I think if there was a stronger effort to bring in different sounds with a little more creative, better producers, and writers,....it would of came out as a 5 star cd but definitely a solid album at best. Fans and non fans might want to check this out.
