This book has wonderful, homey pictures in the ole mountains, and they make you want to jump right into the book and join in. It's about a young girl who wants her "own song". However, my kids and I were taken aback with the spoiled, hot tempered girl who was a smart aleck to her "pesky" boy cousin--a cousin who just wanted to befriend her and who was far better mannered than herself. Her provocation of him caused a serious injury to a favored, highly prized pet chicken of the grandmother's (but it did finally recover). Frankly, I would have taken the brat over my knee. My kids never acted this way--none of them.
Five stars for the illustrations, and two for the story. I recommend this book with reservations. |
