This review is from: My Name Is Allan (Audio CD)
Although My Name Is Allan was not Allan Sherman's best album ever, it's very far from being boring or tedious to listen to! The way he combines his own extremely funny lyrics to musical themes of well known songs proves his formula was hot; he delivers these song parodies very well. The musical arrangements are also very well done; and the artwork incorporates the original artwork from the record album release back in the `60s. In addition, the quality of the sound is excellent.
"It's a Most Unusual Play" is a takeoff on "It's a Most Unusual Day;" and Allan enjoys an excellent rapport with his admiring audience just as he does through this entire album. "That Old Back Scratcher" is a parody of "That Old Black Magic" by Johnny Mercer; and I really like this number--in fact, it's one of my favorite tracks on this CD. I love it! "Call Me" is very well done; and "Peyton Place, USA" is entertaining, to say the least. "The Drinking Man's Diet" is particularly funny; if you like this genre of humor and parody I think you'll enjoy this tune! I always like to hear "Chim Chim Cheree;" and there's yet another gem in "Go to Sleep, Paul Revere!" The album ends with Allan Sherman performing "An Average Song." Allan Sherman may no longer be with us; but he lives on through his humorous and very special parodies of popular and well known songs. I highly recommend this album for any fan of Allan Sherman.

Allan Sherman is a genius,

I grew up with this album, which I took to college in the 90's. My dad had this album and I listened to it over and over. I love the whole thing! The Drinking Man's Diet is hysterical! Allan Sherman inspired Weird Al, another of my favorites.
