I give them credit for taking the show in a new direction and having it challenge Earl's belief in Karma and for the most part the prison arc was pretty entertaining. The problem was when he got out and the writing began to falter. The 50's dream sequence would've been better as a one (maybe two) episode thing and I really started to hate Billie (Earl's third wife). She's just a total harpy that was mean to Randy when he did nothing to her that she made the show hard to watch. Especially when her character got off to a decent start in the prison arc. I know Joy can be pretty vindictive and a spoiled brat, but she had a nice side (in her own way) which redeemed the character. I tried, but this is why I have to give this DVD a lower score.

awesome! hilarious! the whole family laughs together (not typical!) for hours! we love earl. waiting for season 4 to come out ... already ordered it!

I was gung-ho about seeing this season after having purchased and absolutely LOVING the first two. That said, I need to make it clear here Season 3 does not live up to the previous 2. Maybe it is just the edge was missing.

Earl season 3 was not by any means terrible, definitely worth seeing once or twice, but it was far from the barrel of laughs that seasons 1 and 2 provided.

If you are an Earl fan and NEED to get the whole collection, definitely buy it, but for most people, I think that renting season 3 will more than suffice.

Season 3 is a drastic drop in the writing of the show. I had high hopes for the prison storylines, hoping it would be a comedic version of OZ. It had it's moments but was a big let down for me, missed a great opportunity.

It gets much worse though when Earl is out of prison. I was a huge fan of season 1 and 2, then this season seems like it written by different people. Most of the story is really terrible and the gags aren't funny.

Did they decide not to do commentaries because they knew the season was a stinker ? If you already have seen the show there is no reason in buying this DVD set, it has not one interesting extra.

I hope season 4 is better, or Earl will be a flash in the pan as far as I'm concerned.

Earl, Randy, Crabman and the rest of the MNIE gang are hilarious, but season three is the one to skip if you were to skip any season. I like season 1 and season 4 the best - outstanding and incredibly funny. all the season have some small amounts of sexual stuff, but FF and enjoy the rest.

This/these are beyond lame! The new season is all about Earl in prison. No karma nonsense, just half baked episodes about ...prison?!?!
Thank god for Jason Lee or this would really blow!

You will excuse me if I am not able to precisely express my opinion on "My name is Earl" - 3rd season, but English is not my mother tongue.
What I can say for sure is that Earl and the Camden gang are the most genial, absurd, and yet brilliant, bunch of people you can find on TV!
Dont miss them!
Only one shortcoming (according to my husband): episodes are too short!

First of all, I can't believe this show didn't get picked up for this season!!!! Tv execs are morons. How could Earl not go for a good 10 seasons? Anyways, if you've never seen My Name Is Earl, it's about Earl (Jason Lee) who has made a list of every bad thing he's ever done, and wants to get himself some good karma by making up for his past. His dimwitted brother Randy (Ethan Suplee) is along for the ride, and these two are one of the greatest comedy/buddy teams ever. This season starts with Earl in jail (ironically for a crime that wasn't his), trying to do good deeds while he's in jail. You'd think after he gets out of jail things would go smoother for him, but no. Do yourself a favor and get season one and start from the beginning, you won't be sorry; although at the season 4 cliff-hanger we're left with no more Earl. Someone needs to fix this.......

While the first two seasons were very successful, the third season is awful. THe idea of changing the format slightly is understandable and the creators were probably aftaid of getting in a rut. The problem is that the show was really very good. Until, at first Earls goes to prison, during which time he stops crossing things off his list and then he goes into a coma and it gets worse, a lot worse. Also, while previously the storylines were funny now the want to shock also slightly and the whole concept does not work anymore really.

The season broke with the formula and ended up suffering for it...but there are still some pretty good moments.

Main complaint is the SHOCKING lack of special features on the DVD. NO COMMENTARIES = NOT WORTH IT. I'd only buy it if you need to catch up on the series, if you're a collector, or if you don't care about special features.
