GIMME SOME MO'....... JOE THAT IS!,
By Dr. Shanelle "budget fashionista" (Chicago) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Name Is Joe (Audio CD)
I recently purchased Joe's CD and I absolutely love it. Joecontinues to sing straight from the heart with lyrics that'll make youmelt like butter! Even the INTRO is tight! If you're going to compare you must keep one thing in mind: JOE CAN ACTUALLY SING!. Anybody can sound good in the studio with high-tech voice enhancements, but when it comes down to straight up vocal talent, R. Kelly and Keith Sweat can't touch Joe! Joe has his OWN unique sense of self, style, sex appeal, and lyricism and shines forth in this album. This album touches every feel-good emotion and makes you wanna make love. Bravo Joe! You've done it once again!Songs I highly reccomend are: Somebody's gotta be on top, Table for Two, I Wanna Know, Treat her like a Lady, Peep Show, and One Life Stand!

A Must Own CD!,
By Michael Freeman (Berea, KY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Name Is Joe (Audio CD)
What can I say? My Name Is Joe is one of the best R&B CD's ever released. This CD does not deserve a five star rating. This CD should earn a five and a half star rating! I purchased this CD on the first day it was released. I usually don't purchase a CD if I didn't previously listen to it, but Joe is one exception. The only songs that I previously heard before I purchased this CD were "I Wanna Know" and "Thank God I Found You." Joe's previous album, All That I Am, was great. I knew that Joe would have a lot of pressure on him when he created My Name Is Joe. I am proud to say that Joe did not disappoint his fans. If you thought All That I Am was a great CD, you have not seen anything yet! If you ask me, My Name Is Joe is a lot better than All That I Am. Every song on the CD is great. There are some songs that have a different sound than his previous CD. Songs such as "Stutter," "Get Crunk Tonight," and "Black Hawk," all have a different up tempo beat. "Treat Her Like A Lady" and "So Beautiful" both have a nice slow tempo rhythm. My favorite songs on the CD are, "I Wanna Know," "Somebody Gotta Be On Top," "Table For Two," "5 6 3 (JOE)," "Peep Show," "One Life Stand," "I Believe In You," and "Thank God I Found You." "Table For Two" really amazed me the first time I listened to it. The song has a very nice fast beat to it. The second half of the song has a very nice crossover sound (The best crossover sound can be heard with a good stereo). The crossover sound alternates from the right and left speakers. A very innovative idea Joe! "Thank God I Found You" is a remake of Keith Sweat's "Make It Last Forever." While the song is not quite as good as Keith Sweat's masterpiece, it is still enjoyable to the ears. Joe's vocal talent is just amazing. He is one of the best singers of R&B. Very few male singers can compare to Joe's vocals. If you have noticed, every song on the CD has been mentioned. Every song has a unique quality that will appeal to everyone. If you are a true fan of R&B music, THIS IS A MUST OWN CD!

The positives about this CD are the following: Joe can actually sing (unlike Jagged Edge or Case). He is a good producer as well, co-producing two of the album's best tracks ("Somebody gotta be on top" and "I wanna know"), four in total and enlisting some renowned producers for the rest of the album (Teddy Riley--Guy, Blackstreet and much, much more, Allstar--various remixes, She'kspere--Destiny's Child, Jon-John--Profyle, Tony Thompson, Clue and Duro--various remixes, Hip-Hop). The negatives are mostly that I'm sad to report that he's a follower--using the same oversexed subject matter that's popular right now, instead of expanding on "I wanna know" or "Don't wanna be a player" from the previous album. "Get Crunk", while a good song, conveys essentially the opposite message of "Don't wanna be a player." In terms of following trends, he goes as far as to actually enlist NSYNC on "I believe in you." That said, the album is still very enjoyable, if you enjoy upbeat, pop R&B. Joe can sing, there's no doubt about it, and the production is nice as well. He's got songs for when you're in a romantic mood ("I wanna know" "I believe in you", and "One Life Stand"), when you want to get it on with your woman ("Somebody gotta be on top", "Peep show", "So beautiful", and "Table for two"), when you want to get it on with someone other than your woman ("Get crunk"), when you break up ("Stutter"), when you want to snatch someone else's woman ("Treat her like a lady" and "5 6 3 (Joe)"), and whenever you wonder whatever happened to Keith Sweat's classic "Make it last forever", listen to "Thank God I found you Remix." It's got something for everyone. The only downfall is the oversexed subject matter and the lack of variety--like most of today's R&B it's about love, sex, and relationships. That said, I recommend the album.
