Electrotec
Beirut's March of the Zapotec album on the whole is a hybrid of electronic and well Brass instruments. "My Night With the Prostitute From Marseille" definitely falls under the former. I love Zach Condon's voice and was glad to see new work from him. Worth checking out if you like Beirut's previous albums and if you're new to Beirut, this is a great introduction.

Love it or hate it
I'm afraid this did nothing for me. I think it's probably a love-it or hate-it kind of thing. The first reviewer commented positively on the singer's voice... I thought it was a toneless mumble that had nothing to recommend itself. I'm glad I didn't pay for this, it's already gone from my computer.

I'm not sure what the other reviewers are hearing, but this song has bewitched me. The haunting lyrics are so obscure and almost cryptic, they remind me of a prayer or a confession and Beirut's voice resonates with such honesty I wouldn't be surprised if the title describes an event that actually happened. ;8^) The I keep hitting the repeat button when this plays and I can't help but sing along.I don't know, I guess it's all a matter of taste, but if you're looking for independent/alternative music as opposed to the latest Britney Spears single then this should be right up your alley. Reminds me a little of David Byrne/The Blue Nile. I can't say enough about it. I simply LOVE it.
