Reality,
By OOSA Online Book Club "O.O.S.A. Gets It Read!" (World Wide Web, USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: On My Own (Paperback)
Main character, Kaye, seems to have things on track, but once she makes her heart accessible to a man, everything changes and it doesn't seem for the better.
ON MY OWN is an intriguing book that will encourage women to stay strong through enduring situations. Though vulnerability may bring about pain, this is an unyielding journey and worth the experience. However, the book's slow start and lack of excitement at times pulled at this reader's attention. Overall, ON MY OWN is a good book as it was realistic in its portrayal of the many different obstacles that women face. Reviewed by: Pam

Can't put it down,
By
This review is from: On My Own (Paperback)
~SYNOPSIS~ After a terrible breakup, Kalondria "Kaye" Parker enters a state of self-discovery. It is during this period that she is introduced to Atlanta Panthers running back, Jalen Matthews. After sharing more that a passionate kiss when they are left alone for a weekend, Kaye is left to make a crucial choice: should she choose an unsure future with Jalen or should she make a decision that will forever change her life?
Excellent book with great details that paint visual images as you read. This breakout author is destined to be around for a long time. On My Own reminds me of Eric Jermome Dickey, but it is not as "hardcore," nor is it rated G. It is a great read that I could not put down because I was so anxious to see what was going to happen next. Great job and thanks for placing me on the edge of my seat! Can't wait for the next installment.

Second Time Around.....,

Kaylondria Parker is all work and no play makes her a dull girl. After a horrible breakup with her boyfriend she decides to focus more so on her career as a chemist, until Kay is introduced to football extraordinaire Jalen Matthews. Will she be able to let go of her past and let love into her heart once again?
On My Own was a great read. Many can relate to in some shape, form or fashion of being hurt and dusting themselves off and try again to find that special love of their own. This novel was very enjoyable and has a little bit of a twist halfway towards the end that had me very surprised. I consider this book to be in the genre of Christian fiction because in the end God has control and if it's meant to be it will be. Tangerine Reader's Paradise Book Club

Holding onto Negativity,

This review is from: On My Own (Paperback)
A wonderful aspect of this book is that the author keeps it simple and the characters realistic. The book does have a slow start an bland at times, and it was hard to keep my attention. The hardest thing to comprehend was how hard it was for Kaye to change her way of thinking by letting go of a past relationship. But as you read further, one can see how Kaye's upbringing and love of herself had a great aspect on the way she handles difficult situations. I wish Jalen's character could have been a little more developed, but it was nice to see how a man can change his ways for the better.
Then, ending of this book was written beautifully portraying how when two people (Kaye and Jalen)come into self-discovery. Overall, ON MY OWN is a good book because of the realistic portrayal of life situations and hindrances women can sometimes bear.

Forgiveness,

This review is from: On My Own (Paperback)
Kaye came out of a very bad relationship two years ago and she is not ready yet for anything new. Her friend, Tori, has different ideas and pushes her into going on a vacation with her, her husband, Dre, and his friend Jalen. At first, Kaye manages to keep her distance from Jalen but eventually realizes he is truly a wonderful, handsome man, then things between the two get hot and heavy. A bit too hot and too heavy which causes Kaye to go back into her shell. Tori and her husband are quite angry with Kaye. Why can't she just roll with the punches? Then something cataclysmic happens to Kaye and it puts Jalen off. He becomes hateful and unkind. The war is on.
ON MY OWN by Kesha K. Redmon is a romance tale of love that always goes wrong for Kaye. Kaye is well developed and it is understandable why she is so put off on romance. It would have been nice if Jalen had been more developed so we could actually understand why he behaved as he did. The book only covers his surface while I am sure he was a much deeper person. Still, there was enough romance, tension and angst to make the book a page turner. Reviewed by Alice Holman of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

Self Discovery,
This review is from: On My Own (Paperback)
Kaylondria "Kaye" Parker is still reeling from a terrible break-up and is not focusing on dating. She just wants to concentrate on herself and her career. That is all about to change as far as Kaye's best friend Tori is concerned. Tori wants her friend to get out of the relationship rut she's in by introducing her to her husband's best friend Jalen Matthews. Jalen is the running back for the Atlanta Panthers and is living the whirlwind celebrity life. But he sees something different in Kaye. When Kaye and Jalen share an intimate weekend, Kaye finds herself in a potentially life-changing predicament. Can she really take a chance on an unsure future with Jalen? Is Jalen really ready to settle down with one woman?
On My Own is a marvelous debut novel by Kesha K. Redmon. Redmon brought us an interesting story about one woman's journey of self-discovery. You feel the resistance of Kaye trying to move forward due to a bad past relationship and Jalen's uncertainty about their future together. Readers will find that Kaye and Jalen go through some trials and tribulations that make them better people in the end. There is even a little room for a sequel or for these characters to pop up into another book. This novel shows that you have to move through the bitterness of lost love in order to make room for new love in your life. On My Own is a gripping and emotionally-charged novel that will leave you begging for more from Kesha K. Redmon. Reviewed by Radiah Hubbert Urban Reviews |
