Editorial Reviews

Jonathan Widran, All Music Guide, May 2002

For all the hype surrounding Norah Jones, she can't hold a candle to the far superior, multi-faceted Lauren. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

Product Description

"my own twist" is the sparkling follow-up to singer/songwriter/pianist Lisa Lauren's highly acclaimed debut CD, "what comes around". the same stellar lineup of superstar David Sanborn, Fareed Haque and Howard Levy once again join Lisa on a whirlwind romp through her addictive jazzy-pop compositions. The ensemble (which also includes Steve Cole and Steve Rodby of the Pat Metheny Group) weaves fresh interpretations of cover tunes along with her soulful and imaginative originals, incorporating a rich, organic texture of both jazz and acoustic pop sensibilities, in a decidedly unique musical turn. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lisa Lauren's "My Own Twist", March 17, 2007
By
This review is from: My Own Twist (Audio CD)
This is a really good CD. I bought it because I had heard the song "A Shame" on a local jazz station here in Savannah, GA. After I got it, I really got into a lot of the other tracks as well. I expected it to be more smooth jazz, but was surprised to see that it also contained pop, ballads, and even a touch of country flavor like "That's All She Wrote". I also liked the cover tunes. Carole King's "Sweet Seasons" was given a tempo change and feels very different from the original yet at the same time is quite reminiscent of King's version. George Harrison's "Here Comes The Sun" is also done very well by Lauren. I love the song "Life Goes On" with its 5/4 tempo. All in all, this is a jazz record with many other lush flavors mixed in. I will buy other CD's by Lisa. I have become a fan.
