thumbs up from TEAM DOOMED,
This review is from: My Ox Is Broken!: Roadblocks, Detours, Fast Forwards and Other Great Moments from Tv's 'the Amazing Race' (Paperback)
Even though the author decided to name our team "DOOMED", i enjoyed My Ox Is Broken. A good recap of the series, with good interviews. I think fans will like the book, and people just coming to the Amazing Race can benefit from the recaps.PS. I guess we were doomed after all Steve (of Steve And DebraTAR4)

We were participants in the Amazing Race 7, which we have heard was the favorite show among fans. We were the Energizer Bunnies mentioned in this book. We found the author's assesment of what actually happened fairly accurate, but there were many incidents that were reviewed that should have been explained in depth to get the impact of what actually happened. He did a good job basing his research mainly on the edited version shown on TV. There was so much more. Maye we'll write our own book someday. It was more than interesting!!!!Gretchen and Meredith

Completely Unauthorized,

This review is from: My Ox Is Broken!: Roadblocks, Detours, Fast Forwards and Other Great Moments from Tv's 'the Amazing Race' (Paperback)
Well, it is! Seriously, despite not being authorized (and therefore lacking in certain aspects of information concerning behind the scenes production of the show), this is an excellent book as it is written from the viewpoint of both an avid viewer (as the author admits to being) and the contestants themselves. There are some interesting interviews, and some "reality check" moments from the author, including a vomit chapter and a Dear John letter addressed to Jonathan (of Jonathan & Victoria infamy). The author doesn't take sides on anything, but acts as a devil's advocate in all cases, giving even the Guidos airport ploy from TAR1 a fair hearing as well as Jonathan's outbursts. Team names the author comes up with are generally okay where particular teams are memorable, but fail where they are less so - but to be fair, the names some teams give themselves during the game in such cases are the same, and at least in the case of the book you can flick back a page or two to check which team is which. Better are the alternate titles Adam Troy-Castro gives to the races and the legs themselves. All-in-all, its a fun book. And it serves CBS right for not bringing out a book themselves or more DVDs after the two initial DVD releases. ;P

After finally finishing the book, I've got to say that I expected more. The author seems to have little more information about the show than I did. Why do people buy a book like this? They want information that they couldn't have gotten themselves! If the author had gotten some help from the producers and more teams, this could have been a great book. The lack of team pictures was a definite minus, and the author's renaming of the teams was confusing, causing me to continually leaf back to see which team he was talking about! My original rating was 4, but I would lower it to 2 or 3 now that I have finished the book.

This book gives excellent details from the first nine seasons of "The Amazing Race." There are reviews from different racers that give a more in-depth view of the race. This book is a must-have for all race fans!

I had read good reviews of this book all over but I generally dislike books without much dialogue so I put off buying it. I finally broke down and spent the cash and am glad that I did. Even though I haven't watched every season of the Amazing Race, I got quite a few chuckles about the racers and the races themselves. It is written with a bit of generalization so it isn't nit picky and focuses more on the people and their personalities and interpersonal relations. A nice quick read that makes you smile and laugh.

Great, but accurate?,

This review is from: My Ox Is Broken!: Roadblocks, Detours, Fast Forwards and Other Great Moments from Tv's 'the Amazing Race' (Paperback)
This was the book that I expected. A great summary of the Amazing Race, as well as some humor. But, what kinda of got me were the inaccuracies. While reading, I marked each page with a mistake (in all, about 10 or 15). Overall, though, a good buy.

I am enjoying this book a lot but I do agree with earlier statements - you have to be a fan to appreciate the book. Otherwise, a lot of what is written will be totally lost on you. I'm hoping the author will write a follow-up book on the more recent seasons, as I've found his observations to be very entertaining.

This book is a great read for anyone who enjoys ARace on TV and wants to find out some behind-the-scenes details that aren't clearly explained. There are also recaps of the first 9 seasons, and some interviews with some of the players. I recommend this for fans of AR, but not for anyone else.

This review is from: My Ox Is Broken!: Roadblocks, Detours, Fast Forwards and Other Great Moments from Tv's 'the Amazing Race' (Paperback)
This book is a synopsis of races 1 - 9. No new information is really given. There are a couple of interviews with racers but again, no real new information. No behind the scene information. And a pretty screwed justification of why we should not be so down on Flo. This book offers nothing new and skips over alot of the old.
