The Best Of Roy Rogers,
By A Customer
This review is from: My Pal Trigger [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie-My Pal Trigger- is stupendous! It is a touching story of Trigger and the beginning of Trigger's and Roy's relationship. Along with co-stars, Dale Evans and Gabby Hayes, Roy breeds his prized mare, Lady, to Golden Sovereign, the fastest horse in the west. The owner of Golden Sovereign refuses Roy's request, but amazingly Lady and Sovereign run off together. Roy is accused of shooting the stallion. Months later, Roy returns with the unregistered foal of the Golden Sovereign as a token of sympathy to the owner. Golden Sovereign's owner sneers and tosses the foal off as a "half-breed". Roy is not about to let him get away with that and promises to prove to one and all that the best horse in the world is- Trigger.

This movie is Roy Rogers' personal favorite. It has a lot of classic Roy Rogers action. If you only own one Roy Rogers movie, this should be the one. END

Roy's favorite of his movies,
By
This review is from: My Pal Trigger (DVD)
I take issue with the negative review on this movie. I found it a two-hanky movie (for anyone who loves animals), some real acting from "Gabby" (who seldom, if ever, played a drunk) and even a surprise ending. Jack Holt is excellent as the heavy, and Roy is far from the usual super-cowboy character in this. (The "California" character mentioned in another review was played by Andy Clyde, and I don't think he ever appeared in a Rogers movie -- mainly in the Hopalong Cassidy and Whip Wilson series.) This is one of two movie versions of how Roy got Trigger, but much the better one.

ROY'S POEM TO THE WEST!!!,
This review is from: My Pal Trigger (DVD)
This is by far the best Roy Rogers film ever made and Roy's own personal favorite. It covers the period of about three years and tells the story of how Trigger came to be. Heartfelt and emotional, not a standard shoot 'em up, but a simple, poetic story of a man and his horse. The acting is outstanding all 'round with an especially good performance by "Gabby" Hayes as a man consumed with hatred of Roy because he thinks Roy is responsible for the death of his great horse, The Golden Sovereign. Jack Holt and Roy Barcroft are the bad guys and Dale Evans and the Sons of the Pioneers round out an exceptional cast. A fine film, an A+ B Western...And the ALPHA dvd is of highest quality, a remarkable transfer, crisp and clean image. Most highly recommended!

I was so amazed to find My Pal Trigger! My Father-in-Law is a HUGE Roy Rogers Fan and has alomost ALL of the movies he made. However, he could never find this one. We looked and looked and looked and finally found it on Amazon. We bought it for him as a Christmas present and needless to say he had tears in his eyes! Thanks Amazon for allowing us to bring joy to one someone we love so dearly.

This movie was frustrating to watch because some of the main characters, including the local law enforcement, lacked intelligence and reason. Besides having an annoying plot, the film needed restoration. The sound quality was poor and the nighttime scenes were difficult to make out.
Horse lovers may enjoy the many horse scenes. A better western: Riders in the Sky
