From reading the book, I get a clearer picture of the woman behind the unsurpassed talent. It's that thorniness in her character about having things be absolutely right. Perfect. That's the driving force in her success. And she does address this quest for perfection in the book many times, both the positive side and the annoying side. I get the feeling that this incredible eye for detail causes much internal turmoil and is a doubled edge sword of sorts. Through the book, one can appreciate the style, the taste and creative vision... I'm crazy for the millhouse with waterwheel by a stream... the grounds are breathtaking! Organic gardens, chickens with pale green eggs and more roses than the Rose Parade!!
My favorite photo in the book is of her sitting room/office... dead flowers on the coffee table... papers stacked up on the desk... real life. Just like the rest of us.

This book came this morning and I've already devoured it. The time, thought, and patience (not to mention money) that went into the building of this compound is staggering. A beautiful book with interesting and insightful text. A great Christmas gift with beautiful photography and great color.

Of course, a must-have for Streisand fans.

As many long time Streisand fans and followers know, Barbra has collected art pieces, furniture & has had an eye for antiques, design and creativity from the beginning (about 50 years of collecting). I am glad a book of her recent efforts mixed with some treasures from the past have been put together in a nice book as such.I am just about done reading the entire book and I would recomend this for any fan of Barbra or anyone interested in design, antiques and style. A +

Barbra Streisand is an amazing talent of our time, who knew she was also a visionary designer? This book is an inspiration and a gift to anyone who reads it. If you don't believe in heaven, you might want to reconsider when you see the environment by the sea that Babs has imagined and brought to glorious life. No detail has been left to chance and she has been extremely generous in sharing her thinking, her point of view, her life.

My Passion For Design is luscious, don't hesitate to purchase it. At nearly 300 hundred pages, every page is rich with gigantic photos most of which were taken by Barbra herself. It's a treasure.

Don't waste time reading this review, because I would have paid $300.00 for My Passion For Design---go buy the book, go buy the book, go buy the book. You'll thank yourself. I'm thanking Barbra!

Yes, this book is a little pricey, but most of the proceeds are being donated for "Women's Heart Health" She was interviewed yesterday on Oprah and stated that she wants to raise 5 million and will "match" the 5 million. The name of the hospital she is working with directly escapes me but she has made women's heart health her personal mission because so many women die of heart disease. A great book on Barbra's passion for a great cause!

Think J. Paul Getty, Randolph Hearst, Walt Disney. I read every word of this book and studied the pictures directed by text and captions. It was a journey of many years - an art project - that culminated in a thoughtful place of comfort and reflection big enough to house an enormous collection of exquisite mementos of a life well-earned and well-lived. I am not an Early American decor fan, but I understood Mrs. Brolin's attraction: her interest was in the history of our country, along with the artisans who had something to contribute through their craft, revealing what brought us to the present. The research was all part of the journey and part of the attraction of putting together the puzzle. She learned a great deal and that makes the ride worth the effort. She spent all of my lifetime and more honing her craft and bringing her talent into the lives of many. I loved the perfection of the scenes in her movies;the laughter, the tears and, yes, the beauty, all the more poignant. I have never seen or heard her in concert, but I listen to her while on my treadmill and it's better than the nosebleed section in a concert hall by far. She is in my head. Her music has spoken to me since losing my father (Poppa Can you Hear Me?), her love song to James Brolin (while my husband and I go through growing pains). Even when I didn't like the furnishings, I felt connected and I could see myself sitting on that blue couch with her enjoying the view and the roses, and the reasons why everything had a perfect place, with thoughtful placement. While I think to myself, "Gee, how many mouths could that one antique feed?", I also believe that Mrs. Brolin's views are wide enough to help others as she sees fit;I trust that.Read more ›

I love this book. Barbara takes you on a journey of her eclectic design. So many hours must have been put into the building of this home and this book. Every inch of this home is her and I am so happy she shared this with the world.

Thanks to Barbra for taking the time and effort to do something to create a better awareness of and more funding for women's heart research. Women need to support women, and she is putting herself out there for us all. I'll love seeing her incredible home -- she has worked hard for it.
