Perfect for my use case,

Due to moving houses, I had to work remotely from a foam bag chair (like a bean bag chair except more comfortable) for a few weeks. This was ordered specifically so I could work somewhat comfortably from the chair.
It has worked perfectly so far. It is solid, I don't have any concern about it breaking or collapsing, even with my larger laptop sitting on it and me moving around a lot. It has a soft mousepad area, which prevents me from needing to keep one of my mouse pads on the table (usually at odd angles, mousepads tend to slide around, fall off a table, etc). I haven't used the light feature, so I don't have a comment there. Overall, it is a pretty simple yet well made product. It does exactly what I want.

Bad for larger laptops,
This review is from: My Place Myplace Laptop Table Notebook Workstation (Electronics)
The tilted support on this is very poorly designed. I placed my laptop on it and the corner immediately started to bend backwards and didn't support the computer at all. It might be good for a small (13") laptop, but if you have a bigger one, don't bother.

In the picture, the product looks like it is made out of metal. It's actually made of very cheap looking plastic. It got great reviews, which is why I chose it, but I don't understand the reviews at all. The hinges are too weak to support my husband's laptop (you can see the plastic start to bow), and the ridge in the front that is supposed to keep the laptop from slipping into your lap is not tall enough, so the laptop just slips off. It is also not as adjustable as I expected, so depending on the size of your lap and your chair, it might not fit. I would like to return this, but I've wasted so much in shipping already, we are going to keep it as a "snack tray". In reality, it will probably sit in the garage and never be used again. Very disappointing item.

A good desk depending on what you're looking for,

I purchased this laptop table a few months back when I first began having lower back problems. It was the least expensive laptop table I could find as most others were close to or over $100. I intended to use it while lying flat on my back, but that didn't work out at all, and I was very disappointed. If that is what you are looking for then this is not the desk for you.
I'd written the desk off until recently when I needed to find a way to alternate between standing and sitting while working. I have a desk job, and sitting for long periods of times is something I need to avoid. I decided to try working while alternating standing and sitting positions, so I pulled out this laptop desk, extended the legs fully, and sat it on top of my regular desk. And guess what? It works very well. I am able to elevate the keyboard so that the screen is not so low. It's still not the perfect height for my neck, but it will do. There is also room for my regular mouse, which stays flat when the keyboard is elevated. So many of the desks I've seen online either do not have room for a mouse, or the entire table is inclined including the mouse. The biggest complaint I have is the flimsiness. It's made of plastic, and the incline mechanism supports only the right side of the computer. So when I have the keyboard inclined the laptop sags a bit to the left. This is the part I am most nervous about breaking. All in all this can be a very good, affordable laptop desk depending on what you want to use it for. If I could find the same general design made of better quality materials that didn't have the sagging incline I'd buy it in a heartbeat. But for now this little guy is saving my back, so I'll take what I can get.

Good for smaller laptop only,

I went to my local Fry's and bought this item. I returned it the very next day. I have a toshiba satellite p305 and its 17" and the lop left corner bent in. It overall feels and looks very cheap. If you need something for a smaller laptop or just reading then it may be for you.If it had a second support arm for the left side I may have kept it.

I love this item. It is perfect for my laptop. I use my own mouse and it has a built in mouse pad on the right side. Also great that the table keeps the laptop from burining my legs.

How many of us can claim not being guilty of lying in bed with a notebook computer on our stomach until what had seemed light and comfortable just a few minutes prior suddenly begins to feel like a heavy, hot rock? Besides the pain in the gut, the injury inflicted upon your computer is, according to the experts, guaranteed to send the machine into panic mode not to mention invite costly repairs. Putting a pillow or lap desk between you and the computer alleviates the pressure--but not for long.
With the foregoing considerations in mind (along with some derogatory, caricaturing comments from family members as well as a lecture from a computer repair person), I began the search on Amazon for an alternative. Fortunately, I came upon this "My Place" table, which frankly leaves nothing to be desired (except for the unreadable but gratuitous sheet of instructions). It's a unibody design, made of light, solid plastic (with naturally "textured" surfaces), that folds and unfolds in an instant. The computer base elevates to 10 different levels, and the bottom lip holds your machine securely in place regardless of the archness of the angle. Even without the unexpected "bonuses"--a gooseneck directional bright light (making up for the backlit keyboard I've always wanted) and a roomy, level area for using a mouse--this item would be welcome at the price. Fortunately, even I could figure out how to use this device without reference to the instructions--though it wasn't until I looked at the picture on the box cover that I realized the legs are adjustable to two heights (another bonus). The only cause for pause is postage costs, since the item isn't sold through Amazon Prime, and I see that rates have doubled in just the past week. But what's to prevent them from doing the same by this time next week? |
