5.0 out of 5 stars No, its my pleasure..., December 21, 2002

Sometimes the frantic evolution of the music world and its various genres leaves us hanging out to dry, longing for a more basic music experience, one where the art is the thing. If you hunger for a more classic sound, you'll get it here. Technical proficiency is assumed when talking about a session player with as much experience as Ross has...what you don't always get is the FEEL for the music, even with polished blues sidemen. It's here, folks, it's here. Check the play list: a good part of this CD is Ross' own material, giving us a look at his personal view of the blues. If you have younglings in the house, put this on...it can serve as a blues primer...the tracks are exciting and different, the styles are easily distinct from one another but form one dynamic cohesive package. This is not modern liquid paper blues with the heart and soul whited out of it, this is vintage pleasure, very well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blues and Other Colors, October 17, 2002

This review is from: My Pleasure (Audio CD)
"My Pleasure" is much more than a blues album but blues fans will love it! Ross rips through tunes by fellow blues guitar stars Albert Collins and Earl Hooker but also gets jazzy on tunes like "Blues Clair". The sound of the cd, recorded on retro/vintage equipment, is classic and the upright bass used throughout gives it a very cool feel. Ross is helped out by a host of Austin favorites---Guy Forsyth's vocal on the opening "Muddy Waters" track establishes the attitude of the songs to follow---but it's Ross's show all the way. He's always been a great guitar player (Rank & File rules!) but now he's out front where he belongs, playing the blues with fire and finesse.

I have to agree with the other 3 reviewers who posted before me on this one. Great variety from jumping to nasty to mellow jazzy sounds, this set has a bit of everything and it all works extremely well. Very well played by quality musicians and led by the guitar of Ross, this will entertain you for 52 solid minutes and it will go in your play again pile for sure. This is music with soul and rhythm and is highly recommended. My pleasure, indeed.
