5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic for handwriting training
I purchased this for my homeschooled 6 year old. He is a fluent reader but needs handwriting practice. He likes it very much, he enjoys the big pages and carefully reads the instructions on how to trace the letters. This is a book that does not provide for extensive practice, but for quality practice. 1.0 out of 5 stars rip off
The book is $7.25. The shipping is $5.95. I live in McLean, VA. They are in Bethesda, MD. Very disappointing. Somehow they have sold these books to public schools. Those kids only pay $7.00 and no shipping. This program is really for kids who struggle with writing, not your average child. I wish people would consider who we are really helping by supporting this company...

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic for handwriting training, July 11, 2009

I purchased this for my homeschooled 6 year old. He is a fluent reader but needs handwriting practice. He likes it very much, he enjoys the big pages and carefully reads the instructions on how to trace the letters. This is a book that does not provide for extensive practice, but for quality practice. It helps children focus on quality rather than quantity, giving them detailed and age appropiate instructions on how to handwrite letters. Terms like 'magic c' or 'frog jump capitals' are very appropiate for young children and help them remember the right way to trace letters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tool for children with fine motor delays or handwriting difficulties, May 20, 2011

This review is from: My Printing Book (Paperback)
My 5 y/o daughter's occupational therapist is using this series (in conjunction with First Strokes techniques) to teach my child to write. I bought a duplicate set for additional practice at home. My daughter really benefits from having a defined writing area (grey box) and a starting dot to know where to begin each letter.

I wish there were more spaces for practicing, either two pages per letter or some additional blank worksheets in the back that I could copy and use repeatedly. Those who are already struggling with fine motor skills and letter forming really need to practice more than 10-12 times to get it right.

I would recommend to a friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Instructions!!, August 18, 2011

This book is awesome! My son is 5 and will be starting 'big school' in September. One of the things that his preschool teacher commented upon was that his handwriting is borderline horrible. So in a panic I went straight to my computer and looked for something that would help. I have to say that this really is without tears! The instructions for letter formation is very fun. For example to write a letter 'd', my 'instructions' to my son before is start here (point to spot on book) and make something like and o then go up, more up and down. The one is the book goes like "make a magic c, up like a helicopter (picture), up higher, then down with a bump (picture of a bumper car). And the progression of letter formation is very thorough so kids know what it looks like exactly at every stage of producing a letter. It is fun and easy to understand and FUN! So it really is handwriting without tears!

They are making tons of money (esp. on shipping) and normal kids can learn just as well with a pencil and a grade one writing tablet.
