Book Description

November 24, 2009
Author Garry White's instinctual desire to love and provide a home for disadvantaged youth has been denied again and again on the basis of what appears to be personal bias and an isolated episode of mental illness several years in the past. In My Quest to Be a Single Dad, Garry fights the social implication and double standard that single men are unfit to be parents. Anyone involved in social family services or potential adopters will be intrigued by this determined author's tale of continued rejection and social stigmas. Single adults hoping to adopt will also find valuable tips on the dos and don'ts of adoption, many of which Garry had to learn the hard way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dr. White's book, December 9, 2009
This review is from: My Quest to Be a Single Dad (Perfect Paperback)
This astonishing chronicle of serial rejection of a man worthy to be a Dad who rescues life is indicative of White's positive spirit. After all of his attempts to become an adoptive father being met with denials, he continues to press forward. His quest, I believe, is a righteous one as well as being one befitting the godly man that he is.

Single fathers (as single mothers) have a very tough path to walk. His persistence in the face of institutional bigotry speaks volumes about the positive role model Dr. White has been for countless children in the past. One may only hope and pray that, soon, he will be able to adopt.

5.0 out of 5 stars White's "Quest To Be A Single Dad" A Testament For So Many, December 19, 2010
This review is from: My Quest to Be a Single Dad (Perfect Paperback)
We always hear about the difficulties that women go through when it comes to adopting, but very rarely does a story like that of Garry White capture the world's attention. In his book MY QUEST TO BE A SINGLE DAD he outlines why he feels as though he is the perfect candidate to adopt a child, but also the factors that have weighed against him doing so.

There are many things about our legal system that perplex me. The adoption process has to be one of them. There is no doubt that we need to screen those who want to bring children into their homes, but we should also think about where the children might be better off.

This is a conversation that definitely needs to take place, and I hope that a book like White's will continue the dialogue and help us to discuss this in a way that the children will benefit.
