5.0 out of 5 stars Great idea - great food!, August 6, 2007

This review is from: My A to Z Recipe Box: An Alphabet of Recipes for Kids (Cards)
This recipe box is incredible. I purchased it for my 6yr old for her birthday along with an apron and kid oven mits. We have only done 5 recipes so far but all of them are very good, pretty healthy and most of all - fun and easy for kids. My daughter begs at least 3-4x a week to make a new recipe and hasn't let up. The premade recipe cards aren't laminated but they are made of wipable material similar to board books which is nice. There is one for each letter of the alphabet and they act as the divider for each letter once you add additional recipes. She can read them herself and does about 90% of the recipe on her own. They are not too simple or basic like sandwiches or chocolate chip cookies but aren't anything extensive and time consuming either. There are appetizers, breakfast lunch and dinner items and of course desserts! Some examples are: vegetable soup, lemon hummus dip, blueberry cobbler, cheese fondue in a bread bowl, whole wheat baked soft pretzels, honey cookies, zucchini sticks, "surprise" muffins, johnny cakes, cheesy mac and cheese etc... The extra cards (26 of them) are made of thick stock paper. Once we start adding recipes onto them, I will laminate them myself so they survive longer. Even though I love the idea of adding your own recipes, I truly hope there is an option in the future to add more premade recipes. The cards each have fun facts, variations of the recipe and cute pictures. This is available at in store at Pottery Barn Kids. Great birthday present to give to kids ages 5-10. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm ordering several to give as gifts!, October 10, 2007

This review is from: My A to Z Recipe Box: An Alphabet of Recipes for Kids (Cards)
My son received this recipe box for his fourth birthday. Though he can't read the full recipes yet, he loves going through the box and alphabetizing the letters, and is keeping track of which recipes we make and which we have yet to make. We've probably made about half of them so far, and there hasn't been a dud in the bunch. It's probably worth it just for Nifty Asian Noodles, which has become a standard lunch and dinner in our household (we double it). The Whole Wheat Pretzels are also a huge hit. We've just had a great time making these recipes together, and it's nice that they're not all cookies (we had done quite a bit of cookie baking together up until this point, and it's nice to make some savory recipes with him too). He also loves the stickers that are included to stick onto the recipes after you make them.

I'm buying several of these to give as Christmas and birthday gifts. These are just the thing to have in your gift closet, if you're geeky and organized like me and have such a thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars KID-TESTED, MOTHER APPROVED!!!!, April 23, 2007
This review is from: My A to Z Recipe Box: An Alphabet of Recipes for Kids (Cards)
Yummy recipes, easy-to-follow instructions, cute illustrations, all wrapped up in a nifty recipe card box. The recipes are fun and healthy versions of foods kids like to eat. I have three kids and try very hard to encourage them to eat nutritious foods -- versions of old favorites like Cheese-iest Cheese and Macaroni and Nifty Asian Noodles make it a lot easier to ensure that they are eating healthily and having fun too! My kids enjoy cooking and they love eating the foods they prepare. Now, I just need to teach them to do the dishes and I will be able to take the night off!

A fun way to get kids involved in the kitchen! This is a great beginning recipe box set that your chefs can add their recipes to as they learn more. Recipes included in the box set are bright and colorful.

This is a cute thing for an aspiring chef. The stickers that it comes with are cute and the added recipe cards are nice. Also, the recipes sound cute and are healthy. My girls are having fun and they keep it next to Mom's recipe box and feel so big. It is a cute gift and it's educational which we like as well.

My 5 year old loves her new recipe box! A few things that are great about this item:

1. The A to Z recipes are kid friendly and are not complicated to follow.

2. I love how each recipe starts with washing hands, putting on an apron and collecting ingredients--a great way to build good kitchen habits!

3. Each recipe card acts as a letter divider for the box, so you can add more recipes (using the blank cards included in the set)

4. Stickers! My 5 year old loves to review each recipe and put a sticker on it, indicating how much she liked it.

5. Value. At under $15, this recipe box makes a memorable, affordable, gift. A lot of bang for the buck, as there are 26 cooking "projects" contained within!

This review is from: My A to Z Recipe Box: An Alphabet of Recipes for Kids (Cards)
My 3 year old twins love to cook already so I wanted to get them something to help encourage them. This set does just that. I am also happy because the set is made of durable quality materials and it has 26 recipes that all look good enough to want to make and eat.
