****Have a box of tissues by your side when reading this novel****

The authors story is tragic and heartbreaking. As a mother, I wanted to yank little "Lois" out of the novel, hug her and tell her that she is a beautiful human being worthy of love.

Many times, we shut our eyes to the reality that right next door to us at any given moment if not within our own houses, domestic violence is occuring. The author sheds light on it and although the character of Lois initially becomes a statistic by leaving her abusive household to marry an abusive man, she eventually finds her "self" and moves on to a more positive life, ending the cycle.

This book is a must read for anyone involved in Domestic Violence intervention. This really should be a must read for Social Work majors because it also addresses the results of failure within the Social Services system perpetuated by antiquated state laws that believe in holding together genetic kin even if the most beneficial environment is a nongenetic family.

This book is heartbreaking, gut wrenching and above all proof of what strong will and faith can overcome. "Lois" has been dealt the crappy end of the stick for the better part of her life when all she's ever wanted was to be loved like any one would be. After living through one h*ll after another she pulls herself up and proves you CAN do it and all you need is faith in yourself and God. I read this book in one sitting, I just could not put it down...I was rooting for "Lois" and later her children too throughout this whole book and just had to know how this was going to turn out before I could put it down. While what happen to Lois is a very sad testament to an extremely flawed system developed to help abused children and those in domestic abuse situations, the fact that she was able to rise above it all and become a stronger woman and mother and break the cycle is proof you don't HAVE to a statistic, your life is what YOU choose to make it and she's has done an AMAZING job!!!

Written in memoir style, this book follows the life of Lois, whose tumultuous childhood molded her in many ways. You will cry, your heart will race and you yourself will experience the events that happen to this strong heroinne as it follows her through to adulthood and absolution in the end. The abuse she suffers at the hands of her parents and then her first husband show how one soul can persevere through any storm. I loved the honest story telling voice throughout this novel. The emotions that play through it and the anger you feel at all the things Lois must endure will stay with you forever. Highly recommended read.

This is a wonderful book and you will be glad you purchased it. It is a heartfelt book and at times heart breaking that a child had to go through what Lois did. It makes you want to get the child out of the book to help her and remove her from the situation. Lois has a great memory of childhood both good and bad. She does not dwell in the past. It was obvious that Lois found her strength in God. She has learned from the past and moves forward. Nicely written book and greatly recommended.

My Remembrance is a very compelling book,I couldn't put it down!Despite being a very vivid portrayal of a painful series of events for young Lois, you can't help but admire her strength of character. She stands tall in the face of abuse and harrowing circumstances.Even though she may have been feeling small she took the steps she needed to,to step into her own future and break a cycle she did not want her children following on.An inspiring book,in a very grounding and realistic sense.

Excellent - This book took a lot of courage to write and strength to overcome adversity thru life. I applaud Maxine for stepping forward and writing about issues that were not talked about or anything done in years past. This book brought tears and many memories that had been blocked out. Now, schools and community groups are there for abusive situations, and Help is only a phone call away.
