5.0 out of 5 stars Something old... something new... Overall fantastic CD!
As the title of this CD indicates, the songs on it are *very* romantic and music goes straight to your heart. And what wonderful revisitation by some of my favorite Jim Brickman songs! His hits like "Valentine" and "Love Of My Life" were sung by Donny Osmand and Olivia Newton-John, respectively. These are my favorite Jim Brickman songs. And...

3.0 out of 5 stars A relative "ok"
Just had a listen to this live in concert CD by Jim Brickman...
Brief: If you've never heard Jim's work before then you're in for a treat as this is a relative "best of" album albeit live (some prefer, some not...I prefer studio performances in general). If you own Jim's other CDs like I do, unless a live performance is a big value add, I'd have just as...

5.0 out of 5 stars Something old... something new... Overall fantastic CD!, August 29, 2000
This review is from: My Romance: An Evening With Jim Brickman (Audio CD)
As the title of this CD indicates, the songs on it are *very* romantic and music goes straight to your heart. And what wonderful revisitation by some of my favorite Jim Brickman songs! His hits like "Valentine" and "Love Of My Life" were sung by Donny Osmand and Olivia Newton-John, respectively. These are my favorite Jim Brickman songs. And although, I think prefer these sung by Michael W. Smith and Martina McBride, they are still beautiful songs and Donny & Olivia do a great job! New songs like "Change Of Heart" (co-written by Jim & Olivia) are beautiful and I absolutely fell in love with "Love, I found In You". Not only because he wrote this song but because he sings it himself!!

Whether you are new to Jim Brickman or long time fan, this CD is a sure thing! It's wonderful, I've been waiting for this CD to be released and I have it on repeat. Jim Brickman's music is always so emotional and honest! As he says on the CD, his music is "intimate". It feels like his music is portal to his heart and soul. Whatever it is, I hope he keeps it up!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Evening with Jim Brickman and Friends, June 1, 2008
By
This review is from: My Romance: An Evening With Jim Brickman (Audio CD)
Referring to My Romance - An Evening With Jim Brickman in Concert

Jim Brickman is a very talented performer, song writer, and vocalist. This concert was a pleasure to watch and one to watch again, and again, and again.

I loved too the performances by Donny Osmond. To me, that was two great artists coming together to make sweet music.

Olivia Newton-John was also a guest artist on this concert and it is great to hear her voice again and as beautiful as ever.

I loved the behind the scenes. They were hilarious and fun to watch.

This is a definite 5 and more stars DVD and a must watch, must have DVD to add to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another crowd pleaser from Mr Brickman, August 24, 2000

"My Romance" is a crowd-pleasing CD that will probably fly off the shelves, and deservedly so. It's so refreshing to see an artist who actually tries to create MELODY, and who doesn't rely on any studio trickery or gimmickry to make his tunes marketable. Sure, some of the tunes are simplistic, but a lot of the best songs are. (Hey, the guy can actually READ music, unlike a couple of other keyboard artists I could name.....) In addition to the now-classic songs, "Valentine", (with a wonderful Olivia Newton-John vocal) and "Love of My Life" (sung by Donny Osmond, also wonderful), there are 5 new tracks, most notably "The Love I Found in You", where Jim makes his vocal debut on CD. (Unless you count "Rainbow Connection" from his last CD, but that was a bonus track, included only on certain copies). Guest appearances by David Benoit and Dave Koz are also highlights of the disc. My only reason for docking it one star is due to the usual record company trick with "live" albums: leaving off major songs in favor of saving them for the video version. (For instance, "Angel Eyes"....) Still, this is worth the money, and a good addition to Jim's catalog. By the way, don't miss the song that Olivia and Jim composed together, "Change of Heart".

4.0 out of 5 stars Should Have Been a 2 CD Set, August 22, 2000
This review is from: My Romance: An Evening With Jim Brickman (Audio CD)
This was a well done CD. Concert versions of several of Jim's previously published songs, which are wonderfully elaborated and expanded upon, are the main ingredients here. The new songs: The love I Found in You, Glory, Change of Heart, and Circles, are all up to his usual caliber. The Love I Found, especially, marks the transition from being a pure pianist to a talented singer as well. However, this CD is not all it could have been. Compared to the PBS broadcast, it was missing several key songs. The two that immediately come to mind are Hero's Dream and Rainbow Connection. Jim still does not have a CD in wide release that includes Rainbow Connection. Also, the video, when it comes out, will also feature another 5 songs not included in the PBS broadcast. This leaves the CD version inadequate in comparison. While th emusic is good, the lack of all the music when compared to the full concert leaves this CD with only 4 stars. Five star music, four star album. If only it had been a 2 CD set...

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW-this is a surprise, November 8, 2000
This review is from: My Romance: An Evening With Jim Brickman (Audio CD)
I was in Barnes and Nobles one day and I hear the song Valentine playing which I knew because I am a Martina McBride fan, but I am also a Jim Brickman fan. I was suprised to learn that the women singing was Oliva-Newton John. There is also a song with Donny Osmand on the CD. When I first saw Donny Osmands name all I could think was chessy seventy's music. But then when I listened to it, I actually liked the song that Donny Osmand sings. Which will make me the laughing stock of my family for a few days. Oh well. Anyway this is the best Jim Brickman cd I have heard. All the songs even the ones with the artists singing are some of the best on the album. It's worth buying!

As concert CD's go, this is a good one. I, personally, don't like applause interrupting the music, but this music is so good that it doesn't matter. Jim Brickman is a great musician and such a soft spoken and romantic kind of guy...it's good to hear him speak on this CD. Also, the duets are great, especially the new collaboration with Olivia Newton John. What a beautiful song! What a good CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beutifull,Relaxing,Live CD, August 22, 2000

This is the second album of Jim's I bought, the last one being "Destiny." I find Jim's Live CD very relaxing, starting with the Instrumental "Glory."Its a great opening number to welcome us into what Jim Brickman's about.I'm so glad"Picture This" is included. I really fell in love with this number when it came out a couple of years ago.Donny Osmand's version of "Love of my Life" is fantastic.I always knew he could sing, but not like this. Its really the greatest moment on the record. Oliva Newton John is the main reason I bought this album.Oliva sings my favorite song from Jim,the hit,"Valentine." She does a wonderfull job, even though I still like Martina McBride's version better.Olivia co-wrote the next number,"Change of Heart." This could be a great single from the live CD.One song that really blows me away is "The Love I Found in You." Jim Brickman sings this one,and he's really good.I can't understand why he doesn't sing more of his own songs. The Saxaphone on this number, and the one following,"Partners in Crime," by Dave Koz is beutifull. .One thing I can't get over is the fill and sound of this CD.You really believe your at this live concert. If you are a fan of enjoyable, romantic music, you will love this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars He did it again...., October 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: My Romance: An Evening With Jim Brickman (Audio CD)
If you enjoy his music, you have to get this CD. I just came back from his concert in Seattle this weekend, and I am still trying to integrate it. What an amazing night! I was introduced to his music a couple of years ago when a friend of mine asked me to sing one of his songs at her wedding. Since then, I have bought his music, and have enjoyed it thoroughly.

What I didn't realize was how much of an additional dimension his stage presence and personality bring to the performances. Technically, the CD's are better music. Like any live performer, he does modify the songs a bit when he performs, but he doesn't use sheet music. The knowledge that the reason it sounds different than the CD is because he is modifying it on the fly on stage (no music on the piano), watching him actually touch the keys, and listening to him speaking about the songs between playing adds an amazing dimension to it.

This CD, which is very like his stage show, adds a bit of that dimension to the mix. There are comments from him in various spots, and he does sing one of the tracks himself. It lets you see just a glimpse of what is behind the beauty he creates on the keyboard. And with great cooperative efforts with Tracy Scott Silverman (electric violin -- check out his stuff too -- absolutely wonderful!), Dave Koz, Olivia Newton John, Donny Ozmond, and Anne Cochrane, he shows his skill at seamlessly blending his skills with someone else to create magic!

This CD is great! And I can't wait until the video of the concert is released as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Beautiful!!!", October 21, 2004
This review is from: My Romance: An Evening With Jim Brickman (Audio CD)
I first heard of Jim Brickman when I happened to come across the PBS Special while channel surfing late one night. Hearing his songs brought tears to my eyes. I was blown away at how touching and beautiful his music is. As soon as I realized that this CD was available in stores, I snatched it up ASAP. I will be getting married in a year from now, and I plan on using his songs in my wedding...especially "Valentine" and "Love of my Life"

This TV special on PBS was my first taste of Jim Brickman. I have bought a few of his other cds since. The main reason why I call this the best of Brickman is because of the guest stars. Olivia Newton-John sings the most beautiful rendition of Brickman's "Valentine". Donny Osmond's vocal on "Love of My Life" is so romantic and breath taking. Brickman does write some especially romantic songs. This probably will sound odd, but when explaining who he is to others I say "he is the Barry Manilow of the late 90's and the 00's." Okay maybe not so prolific and vocal but his style does remind me of Barry Manilow.
