It's been a long time since I've read a book of poetry that's moved like My Scarlet Ways. I'm the type of person that likes to be flattened when I read literature. If I don't feel assaulted and uttered changed by what I've read, it wasn't worth my time. Each of these poems deliver. I think if one is an adult without children, they may identify more with the theme of the book and the mental gyrations of freedom and regret, self love and self hate, floating and stability, the past and the present and the hope of the future as well as the despair of it. It pulls you into your own life and forces you to look at the mundane, the sacred and the profane aspects of it. But more than just look, it urges us to accept the whole of it.
