Book Description

March 1, 2002
The Catskill Mountains are the birthplace of flyfishing in America and author Menard has spent a lifetime fishing for trout on the rivers and streams of the mountains. (It was here in the 1800s that Theodore Gordon developed dry flies suitable for the fast flowing Catskill rivers.) Sprinkled liberally with tips on everything from refinishing an old cane rod to finding just the right feathers for tying flies, this great book offers advice on outwitting the wary and elusive trout.

4.0 out of 5 stars Especially good for locals... but any fisherman will enjoy, February 19, 2003

This review is from: My Side of the River: Reflections of a Catskill Fly Fisherman (Paperback)
I had a hard time putting this book down. I found the book to be interesting memoirs of a hard-core fly fisherman.. I have just begin to explore fly fishing and could appreciate the authors many tips. As I am fairly familiar with the Catskill Region and have fished a number of the streams, rivers, reservoirs there, I found his references very useful and detailed. His chapter, "the un-explained" sent chills through me and is an example of how this book is so much more than just about fly fishing. I would highly recommend this book to anyone familar with the area but it can also be enjoyed by others as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars I knew the author when----, June 29, 2011
This review is from: My Side of the River: Reflections of a Catskill Fly Fisherman (Paperback)
I knew Roger before he became a writer and was just a great fisherman and tyer. His wife was my next-door neighbor in Westkill and I took her on her first fly fishing outing!
The book is very good! I have read it several times and have managed to now misplace it so I am ordering another one!
Enjoy--it's worth the read!
