My Sister's Ex....Review from Fabculture.com,
By
This review is from: My Sister's Ex: A Novel (Paperback)
Cydney Rax has done it again with her new book titled "My Sister's ex"! I found myself completely engulfed in this story about love, sisterhood, and family! The story involves sister's Rachel Merrell and Marlene Draper in a love triangle of sorts with a Mr. Jeffery Williams. Would you ever date your sister's ex?Well if you have never considered this situation, this book is an easy way to view all the angles. Cydney deals with the mentality of each character, their flaws, weaknesses, and strengths. She gives you each character's perspective which makes it easier to identify with each of them. I love how she gives hers characters "true to life" personalities and realistic situations. As you can imagine there is a lot of drama, comedy, and mixed emotions as the plot thickens! I literally LAUGHED OUT LOUD at the sticky situations presented in this book! The quote "Oh what a tangled WEB we weave, when first we practice to deceive" comes to mind as hidden truths surface to uncover open lies. As you become entangled in the storyline, in the end you will be SHOCKED of the outcome! I found most of the subplots to be unpredictable and spontaneous! I give this book a 10!!!

What is a girl to do when she feels that Mr. Right has turned into Mr. Right Now? Meet Rachel, she is a hard-working woman who wants love, companionship and stability. That is until she meets Jeffery Williams, an entrepreneur and smooth talker and fine as wine. Jeff offers stability, financial security and good loving, but something just does not seem right about him. Could he be too good to be true? When a marriage proposal pops up out the blue, Rachel has to come to grips if this is what she is ready for or is it too soon? Is he the one?
With so many questions running around in her head Rachel turns to her live-in-sister, Marlene, for guidance, but when Marlene falls head-over-heels for Jeff all bets are off. Will Marlene continue to see her sister's ex even though she knows she still has feelings for him? Will Rachel be able to handle the fact that she might have let a good one get away? Is Jeff hurting and trying to use Marlene as a cover-up for Rachel breaking up with him? Where will this love triangle leave us? This book is filled with family drama that will have you laughing, crying, sympathizing and calling on the Lord to come help someone. With a feel good quality and recognizable characters, this book is a must read and will have you begging for more. Cydney Rax I cannot wait for your next release. Dating, breaking up, and making up is already hard enough, but when you add sibling rivalry, a two-time brother, and family drama there is sure to be fireworks. Cydney Rax has a way with adding a twist to her plots; she makes you think about things that for some are unimaginable and unforgivable. The writing style is clear and details are given that allow the reader to visualize the characters and their facial expressions as they interact with each other. The author did a good job transitioning the storytelling between characters without it becoming cumbersome.
This is a great book for all females to read; it expresses the importance of family and the power of forgiveness, yet reminds us that we don't have to share every detail of our love lives. Rachel and Marlene are half-sisters who have always played one-upmanship over clothing, money, and looks--now a man has been added to the mix. Marlena commits the ultimate betrayal and gets involved with Rachel's former fiancee, Jeff. And, to add insult to injury, Marlene has the audacity to flaunt the relationship in front of her sister every chance she gets. I truly had to give kudos to Rachel for her ability to continue any type of relationship with Marlene; I don't know a sistah that would have stood for this from day one. While reading a scene in which Jeff and Marlene are being intimate while Rachel is resting in her bedroom, I just kept thinking somebody is not leaving this apartment the same way they came in--and it wasn't going to be Rachel. I was disappointed that Rachel did not lose control, but the scene conveyed the importance of not giving your power to others, allowing them to do things to cause you to lose your control and composure. As the plot develops, pieces of the puzzle begin to fit and you realize history is repeating itself. Will the sisters be able to move past this situation? The ending was so unexpected it caught me off guard. Still, for me, I believe there would have been a totally different ending. While reading I just kept thinking that there are just some things that family and friends don't do and dating an ex is one of them. Really, who wants sloppy seconds? In my opinion, you can't be my friend or a part of my family, then turn around, stab me in the back, and expect me to be okay about it. 4 Pink Diamonds Sistah Rita of the SistahFriend Book Club

Originally reviewed December 28, 2009
In My Sister's Ex, Rachel Merrell goes into a state of shock when she finds out that her ex-fiance, Jeffrey Williams, has started dating her sister Marlene Draper. Rachel broke off her engagement with Jeff thinking that one day they would possibly reunite when she was ready, but when Jeff started seeing Marlene it was pretty clear that day would never come without far too many complications. Plus sized Marlene comes off as heartless and crude but underneath all of her false confidence is a girl dealing with some esteem issues. Why would she think it's okay to flaunt around with her sister's man? Because she's starved for attention among other things. Her issues with her sister go way back to childhood and sharing her father Blinky with Rachel. Jeff takes the cake with his antics of seemingly being in love with Rachel while going through the motions with Marlene. He is a womanizer and quite the drama king himself and the tangled web he's weaving could have a dangerous outcome. Cydney has done it again in My Sister's Ex with more drama than the pages can hold. I'm shaking my head and asking the question to women who have gone there with a friend's or relative's man, "Are you your sister's keeper?" Better yet, don't answer that question...just read the book! Recommended reading by ShaniReviews Reviewed by Shani Greene-Dowdell, Author of KKeepin' It Tightand Secrets of a Kept Woman (Volume 1)

Thus far I've read all of Cydney Rax's books. My Sister's Ex doesn't disappoint. There were many "oh no she didn't" moments in the book that will have you eagerly turning the page. Rachel & Marlene have a dysfunctional sister relationship but through it all they love each other. The love for one man, Jeffrey, however threatens to destroy their relationship. I don't want to spoil the book but I can say I was satisfied with the ending.

No Man's Land,

Half sisters Rachel Merrell and Marlene Draper have a lot in common. They have the same father, share the same apartment and now, they apparently share the same man. Jeffrey Williams dated Rachel and eventually asked her to marry him. But Rachel wasn't feeling the marriage thing, so she turns down the marriage proposal and ends the relationship. Not to be outdone by Rachel's decision, Jeffrey woos Marlene. Seeing the relationship blossoming right before her eyes, Rachel goes through a period of thinking maybe she needs Jeffrey back, but all her efforts are rebuffed. However, is Jeffrey playing fair? Or, is he just playing someone?
In MY SISTER'S EX, Cydney Rax delves into a relationship arena which makes one say, "Aw, hell to the no." This territory is no man's land for me. I could not date a man my sister dated or vice versa. Rax made it believable and, therefore, possibly doable. She covers many issues with this dysfunctional family to include jealousy, trust, forgiveness and love. Although I didn't care for this situation, I came along for the ride screaming at Rachel and trying to choke Marlene. When it was all said it done, this was a great book. As I read, I keep thinking it will get better and it's not. I can not stand reading about STUPID FEMALES!!! Marlene is as stupid and clueless as they come and at her age, come on!!! Seems like she is 14 not in her late 20's. Rachel is stupid as well but at least she gets a clue. They make my head hurt...
I'm only going to finish so I can see karma come into effect for all of those deserving...
