5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful, Intensely emotional, wonderful story, July 29, 2005
This review is from: My Sister's Keeper (Paperback)
This is a super book to read on a lazy afternoon or evening. You won't want to stop reading until you finish. The author writes perfectly crafted characters you swear must have stepped out of real life. As in all her books there are many, many laugh out loud moments. I love that the author gives the reader so much personal reflection by the characters - I always feel like I know them better than I do my friends.

This is from the book description - Nothing is ever easy for policewoman Jenny Jacobs. She just wants to be in love. Sound simple? Well, there's a catch. She wants to be deeply in love with someone who is also deeply in love with her. Jenny must face the past and the present when she discovers her lover's infidelity and her first love walks back into her life. Her life becomes even more complicated when old feelings surface for her first love -- the woman who broke her heart as a teenager, then entered the church and became "Sister Rachel". In her third published book, Mavis Applewater brings to the printed page a perfect combination of heat and romance, with just the right amount of adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars First Love/ Forever Love, August 31, 2006
This review is from: My Sister's Keeper (Paperback)
My Sister's Keeper is a wonderful book with lots of romance and lusting! You will find yourself rooting for the tall dark cop and the fiesty little nun. Jenny and Lizzie or should I say "Sister Rachel" are amazing together. You can feel the electricity between them with the turn of each page. I also like the character of Kate, the overprotective yet insightful older sister of Lizzie. All three of these characters are real and very enjoyable. There is humor, love, lust, friendship, and hopefully a future for these 2 amazing characters. This is the first book I have read from Mavis Applewater and I look forward to reading her 2other books after this one! This book was a very easy read and I couldn't put it down until I was done. Missed a lttle sleep over that! Well worth it though...

5.0 out of 5 stars Even the Title is Great, April 1, 2007

This review is from: My Sister's Keeper (Paperback)
Mavis Applewater is a truly talented author who needs to write more books! She has never written a story this reader didn't like. `My Sister's Keeper' is no exception. Even the title of this one is good.

Applewater introduces Xena-like cop Jenny Jacobs. Jenny grew up loving her best friend Lizzie, sister of Jenny's boss Kate, who grew up to become a nun. Coping the best she can, Jenny finds herself in one bad relationship after another. In fact, the book opens with Jenny catching her girlfriend in bed with another woman. The cop confides to friends that "all I really want is to fall in love with someone who loves me back."

Lizzie had planned to make a life with Jenny. That is until they were caught by Lizzie's mother in a compromising position in the kitchen. Lizzie was subsequently sent to a girls-only Catholic boarding school, breaking off all contact with Jenny and breaking both girls' hearts.

On sabbatical from the convent to figure out what she truly wants from life, Lizzie makes a reappearance in Jenny's life when both women suddenly end up staying at Kate's apartment - and sharing a futon.

The tension between the protagonists was almost unbearable for this reader and I just couldn't put the book down. It seems like I've been saying that a lot lately, but it's especially true here. Very Uberesque, but very original at the same time, `My Sister's Keeper' is a must read for anyone hooked on this genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, February 9, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: My Sister's Keeper (Paperback)
To me just the right amount of angst mixed the underlying desire of the characters. Many of the flashbacks were mirrors of my own feelings. And the turmoil of the main character near the end was something I could sympathize with as well. To love someone and to let them go is easy to say until you are in that situation. How do you let them go? I enjoyed this book a great deal.
