I want to first congratulate you on your accomplishments with your two novels, and hope to read many more literary works from you in the near future. 3.0 out of 5 stars A New Author's Latest Effort
For My Sisters, 7 Relationship Tips is the latest work of new author, Thomas Long. This is, of course, a book directed towards women, as they are the main buyers of books on relationships. The book starts out well enough, but before long, we find the newly dating couple in bed, sharing sexual intimacies which are described in a semi-graphic way. I believe it behooves...

4.0 out of 5 stars Relationship therapy., October 31, 2003

This review is from: For My Sisters: 7 Relationship Tips (Paperback)
Thomas Long has taken on the arduous task of talking women through
the highs and lows of relationship drama. Here are some excerpts
from the seven categories he chooses.

The Bag Lady Syndrome: Long strongly suggests that women take time
to be alone after ending a bad relationship so they can adequately
heal. Once they've taken the time to throw off the emotional baggage
of the past and are healthy again they are ready to re-enter the
dating scene.

A Vision Shared: His message is to avoid getting stuck in
relationships with individuals who are not on the same career path
or who are still trying to find their way. Don't be a career oriented
woman with a mate who is either "in-between" jobs or merely content
to live off his woman's generosity.

Social Compatibility: Avoid the jigsaw puzzle syndrome; trying to
arrange fragmented pieces into a perfect fit. If you have a man in
your life who does not share some similar interests with you, the
chemistry will probably not last.

Role Definition/Shared Responsibilities: Set some boundaries; With
no boundaries being set at the beginning of the relationship, neither
party is clear as to what constitutes non-acceptable behavior.

Spending Quality Time Together: First, it's important that each party
retain their individuality. So both the man and the woman should have
a set amount of personal time away from their partner to keep harmony
between them. But they should amorously use the time when they are
together as an opportunity to exploit the time they were apart.

Keep The Flames Burning: It is important to have a good sex life
with your partner, good sex eases tension. Sexual chemistry between
partners is one of those mediums of communication that needs to be
maintained and constantly improved upon if the relationship is to
last.

Game Recognize Game: An unscrupulous man usually sends a lot of
warning signs, often unconsciously, which tell you if his agenda is
not sincere. The problem is many women choose not to see the truth
even when it stares them in the face.

With these seven relationship tips Mr. Long shares some practical
and insightful advice. He does not propose to voice what women
feel; however, he does base his views on a man's interpretation of
how he sees women. Arguably, a couple of his tips do reek of maleness,
but that's not a bad thing. This book is well worth reading, and it
does bring home some unpopular truths.

I want to first congratulate you on your accomplishments with your two novels, and hope to read many more literary works from you in the near future. I truly enjoyed reading your book, 7 relationship tips for Sisters. The advice is very practical, yet rewarding for many sisters who are looking to establish a long-term, fulfilling, committed relationship. The book is very fast paced and gets directly to the relevant points. I have benefited a great deal from reading this literature and feel that I am more knowledgeable about how men not only think about relationships, but what they are ideally seeking from them as well. Keep up the good work!!

I enjoyed this book! For one, it is easy reading and straight to the point - no beating around the bush and the information provided is realistic and useful. I'm appreciative that the book is from a man's point of view and some of his suggestions and advice is based on his own experiences which made me cherish the reading even more.

I really felt the positive energy in the words coming from a brother who can speak so bluntly with compassion to us sisters. It's good to finally see a man (black man) lay down some law in a intelligent manner so that we can all get this relationship thing right today! I've seen my share of drama so I could relate to what the book was talking about. Mr. Long it was a pleasure to meet u in philly and you were true to your word in saying that this book would certainly be an experience. Keep up the good work.

3.0 out of 5 stars A New Author's Latest Effort, May 6, 2003

This review is from: For My Sisters: 7 Relationship Tips (Paperback)
For My Sisters, 7 Relationship Tips is the latest work of new author, Thomas Long. This is, of course, a book directed towards women, as they are the main buyers of books on relationships. The book starts out well enough, but before long, we find the newly dating couple in bed, sharing sexual intimacies which are described in a semi-graphic way. I believe it behooves author Long to look at current figures on sexually transmitted diseases, rates of illegitimacy, and emotional problems that seem to rear their ugly heads when dating couples are encouraged to indulge in premarital sex, better known as, 'fornication.' Unfortunately, Mr. Long fully embraces this hedonistic concept. The 'fornication lifestyle' is so prevalent today and destroyed so many lives. In the rear of the book, the author displays his talent at poetry, which is begun well enough with some very sensitive offerings; before long, the mood is shattered as we are again back into smut which quickly debases one's elevated thoughts and moods. The author writes very well, but I certainly cannot endorse a book which propounds sexual libertinism. (...)

5.0 out of 5 stars ladies, it's time to keep it real, May 18, 2003
This review is from: For My Sisters: 7 Relationship Tips (Paperback)
I loved this book! It was truly a pleasure to see a man speak with honesty and from the heart to us sisters offering good advice. Mr. Long's book is a breath of fresh air and it inspired to evaluate my own choices in the men I've dated in my life. As hard as it is for some of us to admit ladies, we are responsible for the dogs we choose to lay down with. We gotta shoulder some of the blame and look within self if we want to stop complaining about only finding "no good" men. My brother keep doing ya thing. we need more strong black men like you!
