Book Description

August 1996
Eighteen years ago, author Robert W. Marlin began his search for the extended family he had never known. Coming to the realization that he had never even heard about his grandparents, he set out to locate his lost ancestors and learn about their lives. Through his own compelling and poignant story, Marlin details the basics of tracing family history back to your sixteen great-great-grandparents. My Sixteen is the perfect book for the beginning or intermediate genealogist. It contains essential how-to information on obtaining and understanding primary records such as birth, marriage, and death certificates. It describes how to use census records, the census Soundex, street directories, immigration and naturalization records, computer genealogy, and other valuable research sources. Marlin also provides numerous tips and short cuts learned first-hand, points out potential pitfalls in doing genealogical research, and provides several new techniques for conducting family history research.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great self help book for people with ancestry in new york, February 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: My Sixteen : A Self-Help Guide to Finding Your Sixteen Great-Great Grandparents (Paperback)
Just quick and easy here.. My family came to this country and settled in New York in the past 4 generations (my fathers side being 2).. I have been reasearching my family history for many years (Mr. Marlin might be acquainted with Mrs' Willis and Ward from the Orlando Public Library who would remember this brat from the past!) I found his book very informative to give me a couple of more avenues to explore.. Very well written! I hung on every word! Thanks Mr. Marlin!
