Please release a boxed set with all 19 episodes!,
By grundle2600 "grundle2600" (Pittsburgh, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My So-Called Life: Pilot/Dancing in the Dark/Guns (DVD)
I love "My So-Called Life." It is my favorite TV show of the 1990s.I watched all 19 episodes when they originally aired. I even remember that one of the episodes (the one with the gun) had to be postponed because a few minutes after it started, the program was interrupted by a news story of a plane crash. This show touched something inside of me that no other show ever has. I wish that BMG would release a boxed set with all 19 episodes. I would buy it in an instant. Many of my friends are big fans of this show. But none of us has purchased this DVD, because we are all waiting for a boxed set that has all of the episodes. I know that this DVD has not been selling very well. I worry that the people at BMG may be thinking that this means that there is a lack of interest in the show. If so, then they are mistaken. People aren't avoiding this DVD because they don't like the show. Instead, they are avoiding this DVD because they want a boxed set with all of the episodes. Let's fact it - this series was a very serious, well written, plot-intensive story. Having only 3 of the episodes simply would not make sense. To really be able to appreciate it, you need to watch all of the episodes, in chronological order. So if anyone from BMG is reading this, please take my advice! Please release a boxed set with all 19 episodes! If you do, then the fans of the show will gobble it up and you mill make lots and lots of money! This was a great series, and it deserves to be preserved in its entirety in the DVD format. Let the fans have the opportunity to purchase all of the episodes in one nice, complete package.

This dvd is an excellent improvement over your worn-out videotapes. But don't bother ordering it. Check out the my so-called life Web site at mscl.com for more information about a boxed set. It will be available soon

My So Called Life - Full of life!,

Nominated for four emmies, winner of one golden globe, this show was canned and flamed undeservadely. The writing, acting, direction, and pure eye candy cinematography ooze not only excitement but also show a talent not regularly associated with a low-budget tv series. This show launched Claire Danes up to the dizzy heights of her fame with "Romeo and Juliet" along-side Leonardo DiCaprio and Brokedown Palace. Her character, Angela Chase, is brilliant in her observancy and her insights get people reliving what it was to be a teenager. But shes far from the heroine we normally get spoon-fed, she fights for what she gets, and gets there in the end. The show was cancelled after just under 20 shows and in many this might have been a good thing because it was always fresh and lives on in my mind as being one of the best series ever to hit our tv screens. Get the dvd or video, relive those memories!

========Review from December 25, 2001==========
Wonderful show that I cannot get enough of. Even at the age of 37, this show takes me back to my teenage years and all of the related angst and wonder. The acting by the cast is top notch. I especially like AJ Langer, Claire Danes, and Devon Odessa. Apparently, BMG Special Projects may not release any more of the My So-Called Life episodes on DVD! If you're a fan like me, contact BMG Special Projects to have BMG Special Projects release the rest of the episodes on DVD. There are rumblings that they may release a boxed-set of all episodes, so make sure you make your desire to own more MSCL DVDs known. =====Update to review December 2004===== The remaining series DVDs were eventually released as a box set in early 2003. There was also a limited time special purchase through a non-Amazon.com vendor that did not include the first DVD for people like me who already owned the first DVD. Dealing with this non-Amazon.com vendor was a little bit of an adventure and took over a year to complete the sales transaction, but it finally did happened.

Great DVD,

I highly recommend the DVD for any fan of the show. The image quality is great. I have SuperVHS recordings of every episode, and I still plan to buy each DVD that gets released. This is one of the few realistic, quality shows to appear on TV. Many people seem to think the show focuses on the teens, but the adults also have a large part in each episode. The show presents everyone's So-Called Life. ...all ages. I am tempted to disagree with those of you waiting on boxed sets. How can BMG know there is an interest unless people buy what's available? This DVD has previews for 2 future DVDs. I don't expect BMG to be reading the reviews written here so how can we let them know about our interest in the series? I would recommend buying it now, or we may not see any more episodes released on DVD.

A taste of network TV at its best!,
By
This review is from: My So-Called Life: Pilot/Dancing in the Dark/Guns (DVD)
My So-Called Life was with little close competition the best family TV series produced in the 1990s. The DVD gives a taste of a series that should have been continued for much longer than the 19 episodes which were produced. The show was mysteriously cancelled by the producer due to low ratings. The characters in the three episodes on the DVD are very real and easy for all ages to relate to and identify with. The acting is excellent. Angela, as the central teenager of the show, gives an extremely believable portrayal of life in an average American town in the 1990s as seen from a high-school student's eyes. If all 19 episodes are ever released in a DVD box set, I will purchase them immediately. Every family in America should have this entire show in their DVD collection.

This television series was amazing. The writers brought a realistic teen high school style program to a world of 90210's. The characters in the series deal with real life issues that many can relate to. In all fairness, the characters are, at times, general stereotypes, but they are realistic ones. We dont see a group of just "the cool kids" or just "the bookworms"-we see everyone interacting together. The average girl is friends with the alcoholic. The neightbor is the weird outsider who finds himself talking to the "normal" girls father...who is umemployed. The actors are perfect, as are the stories. I wish the series had lasted another season. The vhs copies are great, but no one wants vhs anymore. I am hoping the rest of the episodes are released on dvd. If you have not seen the show at all, order the dvd. It is cheap enough to try. You're sure to like the content

Great! Where's the rest?,

This review is from: My So-Called Life: Pilot/Dancing in the Dark/Guns (DVD)
There's no doubt My So-Called Life has a massive group of fans worldwide waiting for its complete DVD release. Therefor it's also a huge question why the remaining episodes have not been released yet. It seems pretty pointless to release three episodes on one DVD and stop there. Let's just hope the rest of the episodes are soon to follow.Claire Danes gives a great performance on screen here, and along with the rest of the cast My So-Called Life, they've made a show I will never forget. Once again, please release all episodes!

We Need a Boxed Set!,
By A Customer
This review is from: My So-Called Life: Pilot/Dancing in the Dark/Guns (DVD)
I just saw Panic Room and was thrilled to see Jared Leto, who I was so impressed with while watching "My So Called Life", with my then teenaged daughter. We originally taped all the episodes, but teenagers lend things that don't get returned...so I was looking to purchase a boxed set...the entire series. But...it doesn't exist. WHY??? As a mature adult, I watched this series and remembered when...with my daughter, who was looking at it as a preview of the future...neither of us missed an episode. Anyone who watched this show knows that it has to be viewed sequentially...each episode is dependent on the one previous. The drama builds and builds, the characters mature, life goes on. It was a wonderful series...and probably would have done much better on a channel like HBO! If it hadn't come first, we wouldn't have Sex & The City and others like it. Why, oh why, can't we get a complete boxed set?????
